Mental Illness Awareness Week (October 5–11, 2025), led by Canadian Alliance on Mental Illness and Mental Health, is dedicated to raising awareness and understanding of the factors that may contribute to mental illness. This week, CMHA HKPR is spotlighting housing and timely access to care, sharing recent statistics from CMHA National and highlighting how our work is helping to close gaps and improve access to barrier-free programs, services, and supports.
At CMHA HKPR, one way we are actively working towards providing our communities with timely mental health care is through our walk-in clinics.
In February 2025, CMHA HKPR introduced walk-in mental health clinics in Peterborough and Lindsay. Building on their success, we've recently expanded with a new clinic now open in Minden! (See locations and hours listed below)
These clinics were designed to offer real-time access to a mental health professional who can assess needs and connect individuals to the most appropriate care, whether through CMHA HKPR or another community service. Care is provided on a first-come, first-served basis, with a focus on timely, person-centered support.

Mental Illness Awareness Week (October 5–11, 2025), led by Canadian Alliance on Mental Illness and Mental Health is dedicated to raising awareness and understanding of the factors that may contribute to mental illness. This week, CMHA HKPR is spotlighting housing and timely access to care, sharing recent statistics from CMHA National and highlighting how our work is helping to close gaps and improve access to barrier-free programs, services, and supports.
At CMHA HKPR, we strive to provide flexible strengths-based and barrier free supportive housing based on client need and stability and may be dependent on the different housing programs available. They may include: Case Management, Housing Supports, Peer Supports or Housing Retention visits by CMHA-HKPR staff or by Community Partners who provide primary support in the unit. Individual programs may have varying lengths of tenancy or different application or eligibility requirements.
In October 2024, CMHA HKPR reached a major milestone with the installation of its first Garden Home, a fully independent, self-contained living unit located in the backyard of an existing CMHA HKPR-owned property. The Garden Home initiative was born out of two critical questions: “How might we expand the affordable housing stock in our region” and “How might we better utilize the properties we already own?” CMHA HKPR is proud to be the first social service agency in Peterborough to pilot modular construction as a scalable and innovative housing solution.

CMHA HKPR observes the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We stand with communities across Canada in remembering, reflecting, taking responsibility, and honoring the children who never returned home, survivors, their families, and communities. Every Child Matters. 🧡
Across our offices, we invite our staff, clients, and community to reflect in ways that are meaningful to them, to get involved, to listen, and to learn.
Pictured here: our team in front of “Good Medicine,” a mural by Indigenous artist Jared Tait , proudly displayed at our George Street office. Jared belongs to lynx clan with roots to Sachigo Lake First Nation and Thunder Bay, Ontario. The mural, celebrates cultural practices and the strength of traditions. Each element tells a story, honours traditions, and reflects the teachings that guide. Swipe to see the full mural.
On September 30 we honour survivors and their families and commit to doing better.
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is about remembering what happened and supporting the work that’s still ahead.
It's also important to remember that although today is recognized as a day of awareness, it's a responsibility that continues.
We encourage everyone to take time to reflect and support Indigenous initiatives in your community.
