December 3rd marks the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD).

Mental health conditions are among the most common invisible disabilities in Canada, with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD, OCD, ADHD and complex trauma shaping how people think, feel and move through daily life. Yet stigma often keeps these experiences hidden.

This IDPD, let’s move forward by listening with compassion, challenging stigma, respecting accommodations, and advocating for accessible, inclusive mental health care across the province.

Housing is the foundation for good mental health A safe, stable, affordable place to call home isn’t a luxury — it’s a foundation for good mental health. When housing is secure, people sleep better, eat better, and feel better. 💚 Everyone deserves that sense of safety.

When we hear the word addiction, most of us think of alcohol or drugs. But addiction can also relate to activities like gambling, gaming, shopping, eating, s*x, social media, and even work.

Addiction isn’t a choice. Our brain actually changes, making it hard to stop no matter how much we want to, and it can affect anyone. We need to meet people struggling with addiction with empathy, not judgment. Everyone deserves compassion, care, and support on their path to recovery.

Recovery rekindles hope.

Thank you for sharing our exciting news PtboCanada!

Read about our latest program, Coming Full Circle, recently launched in Haliburton County.

Point in Time and the Canadian Mental Health Association Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge (CMHA HKPR) have officially launched its Coming Full Circle Program in Haliburton County with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, announced on Tuesday.

Funded by Canada’s Substance Use and Addictions Program (SUAP), the program is a transformative two-year initiative designed to build a network of peer support workers who bring lived and living experience of substance use and mental health challenges according to a press release. These individuals are trained, mentored, and supported to contribute meaningfully to improvements in the health and social systems across Haliburton County.

The program is rooted in the belief that lived experience is a powerful asset. Peer support workers offer a unique and invaluable perspective, fostering trust, empathy, and connection in ways that traditional services often cannot.

“This program represents a different approach to care, one rooted in connection and lived experience.” said David Barkley, program supervisor. “Peer support means working with someone who truly understands the barriers and challenges because they’ve been through them too. That authenticity helps build trust and makes it easier to navigate the tough realities that can come with living in smaller, rural communities. People deserve support from a place where they feel welcomed, not judged.”
