🧡 National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 🧡
Today, we pause to remember and honour the children who never returned home, Survivors of residential schools, their families, and their communities.
It is a day to reflect on our shared history, acknowledge the truths of the past, and commit to meaningful steps toward reconciliation.
Every small action—listening, learning, and supporting Indigenous voices—helps build a future rooted in respect and healing.
🧡 Let’s wear orange, listen with open hearts, and walk together on the path of reconciliation.

While promising, blood biomarker testing for Alzheimer’s is not yet covered by OHIP and can be costly. It’s currently used selectively with specialists in discussion with their patients on a case-by-case basis. Please speak with your primary care provider to discuss if a referral to a memory specialist is right for you. 💰 🧠

👉What exactly are plasma biomarkers?
These blood tests can be supportive in the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease as they can determine levels of certain proteins in your blood that are linked with Alzheimer’s pathology. They are, however, only a small piece of the diagnostic puzzle in Alzheimer’s disease. It is important to discuss concerns with your memory with your primary care provider to seek a referral to our Geriatricians if needed. 🧪 🧠

Great news! LifeLabs and Dynacare now offer blood-based biomarker testing for Alzheimer’s, including the Aβ42/40 ratio and pTau217. A major step forward in diagnostics. 🧪 🧫
These tests can be beneficial when ordered by a specialist physician who carefully assesses your clinical presentation and reviews the risks of benefits of each test. Please talk with your primary care provider if you have concern with your memory and would like to see one of our Geriatricians. 🧠

Monoclonal antibodies like lecanemab (Leqembi) and donanemab (Kisunla) are changing the landscape of Alzheimer's treatment. Both are under review by Health Canada and already approved in the U.S.🧪 🧠
This fall, we’ll be launching an interventional study testing the efficacy of a monoclonal antibody that targets amyloid plaque — a hallmark of Alzheimer’s pathology. Stay tuned. 💉

We just started a pre-screening study that will test for p-Tau levels in participants. The goal? Easier and earlier detection of those with early symptomatic Alzheimer’s. 🧪🧫
