Wow! It has been 5 years since Against the Grain Counselling Services opened its doors in Peterborough, Ontario. From its humble beginnings, through its survival during the pandemic, to its expansion into the USA … I never could have imagined what course this path would take, nor could I have anticipated the bumps and challenges along the way or the unforgettable and invaluable experiences I would have with clients and colleagues.

It has been such a joy and an honour to offer my services to the communities of Ontario, Alberta, Nunavut, British Columbia, Yukon, and Connecticut. Thank you all so much for your trust. I look forward to doing what I love for many more years to come.

I am forever indebted to my golden dog and guardian angel, Bella Mae. Finding her ten years ago changed my life. Adopting her set me on a whole new path. Through the healing experiences I had with her as my companion, I chose to dedicate my life to wellness and recovery. She inspired me to pursue animal assisted therapy and to continue raising awareness about the many therapeutic benefits of working with animals. She earned her wings last year and continues to be my guide in the sky. 🪽✨

Our little Leiapold turns 5 years old today!! 🎈🐾 ✨
Leiapold was adopted in 2019 and began training to be our resident therapy cat at our former in-person location in Peterborough, Ontario. She met some of our first clients when she was just a little kitten. When the pandemic came, Leiapold spent most of her time playing and lounging with the other animals on site. As a result, she is only now acclimating to seeing other humans again! She still shows up for sessions occasionally on our virtual platform. 🤗 Happy Birthday Leiapold! 🐯♥️🎂
