The match? 9 out of 10. The timing? Everything. The result? A 10/10 connection for life ❤️

In 2018, Joel received a life-saving stem cell transplant, donated by a stranger halfway across the world in Westerberg, Germany. 7 years later, Joel is still in touch with his donor, even receiving a heartfelt letter of connection and gratitude. Two lives, forever linked by one selfless act.

Need help with your stem cell swab kit? We’ve got you 👊

1️⃣ Open your swab kit.
2️⃣ Take out the first swab – don’t let it touch anything!
3️⃣ Attach the barcode label.
4️⃣ Swallow once, then swab the inside of one cheek thoroughly.
5️⃣ Repeat with the other swabs, alternating cheeks each time (left, right, left, right).
6️⃣ Seal all swabs in their labeled tubes and return as instructed.
..and you’re done!

When friends do good together, it feels great!

Barb Jones (left) has been a volunteer of 37 years with Canadian Blood Services. Lorraine Worth (right) has been volunteering with us for two decades — she just received her 20-year pin!

These besties first met at another volunteer gig with Girl Guides of Canada (they've each been there for over 50 years!). Barb was asked if she’d like to volunteer with Canadian Blood Services by a volunteer coordinator in Windsor. She was a lab technologist at the time but felt she could do even more to engage with her community on a bigger scale. She later brought her friend Lorraine along!

Both women have also donated blood and plasma. Lorraine has given more than 80 times and Barb has passed 50 donations.

When Barb was asked about how she got involved, she modestly said “I just fell into it one day. It’s what I love doing.”

We think Barb and Lorraine have done a lot worth bragging about! Thanks to these incredible women for their commitment to their community and patients across Canada.
