My waitlist has gone down!

And I’m very excited 😂

Before Stacey started working with me, my waitlist was close to 3 months long sometimes! I couldn’t get anybody in to see me soon enough, it felt like everybody was hurting and I couldn’t help them in a timely manner.

Pregnancy massage is my jam! But when people don’t get sore until 6/7 months along and you book 3 months out, you don’t get to see many pregnant clients 😭

My waitlist is now about 5-6 weeks long- CUT IN HALF! And while most RMTs might not consider that to be a *positive* change, I certainly do. It’s hard to help people feel better if you can only see them once every 3 months.

Does this mean I’m not accepting non-pregnant clients? Nope! But I do have a preference (and a lot of additional education) in prenatal massage 💆‍♀️ 🤰

Excited to see some more bellies at the clinic soon!!

How much pressure is most effective for a massage?

Ever heard your massage therapist say 'No pain, no gain'? Well...that just isn't true 🤷‍♀️

The RIGHT amount of pressure during a massage, is the amount that feels GOOD for you and your body.

When your body feels good during a massage appointment, it calms the nervous system. This can decrease tension all over the body, take your body out of fight/flight, decrease stress, and help your massage to be integrated into your body better. So THAT is what is most effective!

It's ok if what feels good for you is barely the weight of my hand, only just engaging the tension in your tissues. It's also okay if what feels good is my upper body weight balanced on an elbow in your glutes. 💪 🍑

If your massage has you tensing, fighting your therapist, swearing to cope, or flinching...

1) this will hype up your nervous system, and can increase the 'volume' of pain you may be feeling
2) consider: is that still enjoyable for you?

The pressure that's most effective, is the pressure that feels good. 👌🏻

I got out yesterday for a bike ride on my super-cycle! 🚴

The weather's been too good lately. After that stretch of gloomy rain it feels so good to get out and MOVING!

Did you know that regular pain-free body movement can do a lot to decrease aches and pains? 🤓 💪

Besides the bike, I've been doing occasional yoga and Ring Fit Adventure (a fitness video game!) to keep active.

What do you do to keep your body moving and feeling good? ☺️

TIGHT muscles vs TAUT muscles 💪

Sometimes in massages we need to work on areas that are not where the pain is, in order to help relieve the pain. We need to look at the body as a whole, and consider WHY something is hurting, not just WHERE something is hurting.

In some cases, muscles are hurting because they are stretched; their attachment points are separated far apart, creating TAUTNESS in those muscle fibers.

Often, if a muscle is taut, it can be because other muscles are TIGHT; this means they are contracted, pulling on body structures to bring them closer together.

‼️Releasing the tight muscles can help to provide slack and relief to the taut muscles‼️

The taut muscles are still important to work on. Working on them helps your nervous system to relax a bit, providing relief! Among other benefits 😊

Does this make sense? If you have any questions, drop them below and I'll try my best to answer them! 👇🏻

INTRODUCING STACEY! 🥳

We're growing! I'm so happy to welcome Stacey Kemp to my practice!

Stacey has been a good friend of mine for years; we even went to massage school together! So I know any of my clients who choose to see her will be in THE BEST hands (pun intended 😉)

I have trained Stacey in prenatal massage personally, but Stacey really enjoys having a variety of people in her practice to keep things interesting!

Stacey recently moved back to Peterborough and has been looking for an opportunity to shift her practice closer to home. We're both very excited as this seems like a perfect fit 🤍

Appointments with Stacey can now be booked online beginning June 3rd- and I know you've all been waiting for more evening appointments, so here they are 😝

To book, head to: https://peterboroughmassage.janeapp.com/

We are open!

All massages will remain as scheduled for the upcoming lockdown.

I had already planned to take this next week off in order to avoid clients who may have visited family for Easter and returned for massages asymptomatic but unknowingly contagious. So all massage appointments that are currently scheduled are to remain so unless I receive further direction otherwise 😊

I look forward to seeing you all on the table!
