๐ŸšจA special weather statement is in effect for much of southern Ontario. ๐ŸŒง๏ธ Significant rainfall is possible beginning tonight and continuing through Wednesday. Forecasts indicate 20โ€“40 mm of rain, with locally higher amounts possible where thunderstorms develop.

Because the ground is currently saturated or frozen, it may not absorb much of the rainfall. This can lead to:

โœ… Water pooling on roads
โœ… Flash flooding during heavy downpours
โœ… Localized flooding in low-lying areas

โš ๏ธ Rainfall warnings may be issued as conditions develop.

Stay informed by monitoring updates from Environment and Climate Change Canada and check local flood information at Ontario.ca/floods.

Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a special weather statement for Northern Peterborough County:

โ˜” What:
โ€ข Potential for significant rain and freezing rain tonight and Wednesday.
โ€ข Periods of freezing rain.
โ€ข Ice accretion or build up of 2 to 5 mm.
โ€ข Rainfall amounts of 20 to 40 mm.

โฐ When:
โ€ข Beginning tonight or early Wednesday morning and lasting through Wednesday or Wednesday night.

โ“ Additional information:
A series of low pressure systems will lead to significant rain and freezing rain across parts of southern Ontario. Ice build up may cause tree branches to break. Utility outages are possible.

There remains uncertainty across the region as to the primary form of precipitation as temperatures will hover near the freezing mark. As a result, precipitation may transition back and forth from rain and freezing rain across this time period. Precipitation may fall heavily at times, which may lead to localized flooding in low lying areas.

Canadaโ€™s Guidance on Alcohol & Health shows 6 or fewer drinks a week helps avoid increasingly high risks for health issues.

Itโ€™s OK if youโ€™re not there yet. Remember, any reduction helps lower your risk. Every little bit counts.

Here are some tips for starting ๐Ÿ’ป LakelandsPH.ca/DrinkLess

Kawartha Conservation has continued their Flood Outlook until Wednesday, March 11, 2026 as warmer temperatures and snowmelt continue to increase water levels and flows across the watershed over the coming days.

While widespread flooding is not expected at this time, localized flooding in low-lying areas and hazardous conditions near rivers, streams and lakes are possible.

Please take precautions:

โ€ข Avoid all watercourses
โ€ข Stay back from riverbanks, bridges and culverts
โ€ข Keep children and pets away from fast-moving water
โ€ข Use caution in low-lying areas
Staff continue to monitor conditions closely and will provide updates if needed.
