This Black History Month, we celebrate Ray Charles — a groundbreaking artist who lost his sight at a young age and went on to transform the world of music.

Ray Charles challenged racial barriers, reshaped soul, jazz, and blues, and proved that disability is not a limitation to creativity, leadership, or impact. His legacy reminds us why accessibility, inclusion, and opportunity matter — because talent is everywhere when barriers are removed.

White Cane Week is February 5-12 and is named after the white cane, a tool many blind and visually impaired people use to travel. While they walk, they move the cane from side to side in front of them. The feel and sound of the cane on the ground or floor gives them information about what is ahead, including:

- Steps or curbs
- Obstacles, such as furniture
- The texture of the ground (pavement, grass, snow, puddles, etc.) or floor (tile, carpet, etc.)
