Well, 2022’s come and gone. I hope it was fulfilling for you.
It was another full year for me, as I shifted from the academic portion of my MA in Counselling Psychology into its 8-month clinical placement, where I had the pleasure of working with clients about 8-10 hours/week under the supervision of Dr Sean Robb of Psychotherapy in St Catharines. Thank you, Sean, for your remarkable supervision and the rest of the MedPsyche team for your generosity and encouragement.
My direction shifted throughout the year. I cut back on all my freelance editing and spreadsheeting work (thank you, Consulting and Communities Canada), except the -Garden Shop (thank you, Brenda!) and wrapped up my 5-plus-year-long run of lunch-hour yoga classes in July. It was a pleasure sharing yoga with the hundreds of you who joined these classes over the years. Thanks to -HKPR for inviting me to lead yoga-meditation sessions for your Justice arm’s recreation program. It was truly enriching.
June had me starting a mini private practice, working with 3-4 clients in my more local community.
August was graduation (yay!), and I hung my shingle for full-time private therapy practice in a downtown Peterborough in September. I feel privileged to be receiving supervision from 3 fabulous therapist/supervisors — Sean Robb, Cheryl Robinson, and Paul Fox. — as I build my practice. Things are growing well, and I’m already feeling fulfilled in my new role. I’m gratefully accepting adult clients for in-person or virtual sessions and look forward to supporting many in pursuit of better mental health.
I want to end by thanking my best friend and love, Sarah, for her support throughout the almost 3 years of my Master’s program. This is my second Master’s, and I’ve always contended that the partners of those who pursue graduate degrees deserve honorary degrees themselves.
Best wishes for health, love, and happiness in the New Year.
Andrew
