Our hearts are with Lambton College.
We are grief stricken by the tragic incident at Lambton College earlier today. As an organization rooted in this community, we know how closely our paths are intertwined. Our staff, the people we support, board members, and our families learn, work, and grow alongside the College every day.
We extend our sincere condolences to the victims and families most affected, and we are holding close all students, staff, first responders, and loved ones across our community.
LCDS stands in care, compassion, and solidarity with Lambton College as we grieve together and support one another in the days ahead.

Lambton College is deeply saddened to share that an individual has died following a shooting early this morning during a Student Administrative Council event at a pub on the Sarnia Main Campus. Two other individuals sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

This loss is a profound tragedy. We extend our deepest condolences to the individual’s family, loved ones and friends and to everyone affected by this staggering loss. Our thoughts are with everyone impacted by this senseless act of violence.

The Sarnia campus remains closed today, Friday, April 10. This closure is inclusive of all classes and services at the Main Campus, Fire School, Skilled Trades Training Centre, EarlyON Child & Family Centre, Community Employment Services, and Capstone's Bistro. The Ottawa Campus is not impacted. We ask our community to please avoid campus.

Support is being provided to members of the Lambton College community through Counselling & Wellness and the Employee and Family Assistance Plan.

We continue to work closely with Sarnia Police Service as they investigate. We thank Sarnia Police Service and emergency services for their response. We also thank our Sarnia-Lambton community for their support at this difficult time. We ask that the privacy of our community members and their loved ones be respected.

🎉🎂Sweet Surprise for Pat's Birthday.🎈

Today is Pat's Birthday - April 8 - and all she wished for this year were cards in the mail.

Mrs. Hill’s Grade 6 class at Queen Elizabeth II Public School in Petrolia made her the sweetest handmade birthday cards and made Pat's birthday wish come true.

Pat was absolutely over the moon.

Thank you to these thoughtful students for making her day so special.💚💜

🐰 A Sweet Surprise from the LCDS Wellness Committee & Happy Easter 🐣🌷

The LCDS Wellness Committee has been masquerading as the Easter Bunny this week, hopping through our locations from Forest to Brigden and leaving a treat for every staff member! It’s a fun reminder that a little joy can go a long way, especially when we’re all working hard to support our community.

At LCDS, we believe that caring for our community starts with caring for the people who make our mission possible. That’s why the Wellness Committee exists, to support staff wellbeing, build connection, and create moments of fun throughout the year.

A big thank‑you to our Wellness Committee for spreading Easter cheer, and to our incredible staff for everything you do each day. You make LCDS the community it is.

Happy Easter from all of us at LCDS! 🌷🐣

🌍Today is World Autism Acceptance Day – April 2

Today, we recognize World Autism Acceptance Day by highlighting the importance of moving beyond awareness toward true acceptance. Autism Acceptance means embracing the diversity of Autistic and neurodivergent people and creating environments where everyone is recognized for their strengths, supported, and empowered to be their best.

💙 Why Acceptance Matters

Acceptance goes further than simply knowing autism exists. It’s about understanding lived experiences, reducing stigma, and ensuring people feel respected for who they are. When we focus on acceptance, we create spaces where people can thrive, contribute meaningfully, and feel a genuine sense of belonging.

Let’s continue to build a community where neurodiversity is celebrated and everyone feels welcome. 💚💜

🍁🌳Welcoming Spring the Sweetest Way: Maple Syrup Time🌹☀️🌷
Matt, Cameron, Emma, Tara, and Wes spent the day at the A.W. Campbell Maple Syrup Festival, taking in the maple syrup demonstrations, horse‑drawn wagon rides, and all the hands‑on activities.

They also stopped by the community booths, from Lambton Wildlife to the Bluewater Centre for Raptor Rehabilitation, and enjoyed the sweet treats like hot chocolate and maple taffy.

A big thank‑you to the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority, the Alvinston Firefighters Association, and all the local organizations who make this festival such a great spring tradition

Building Understanding, One Conversation at a Time
Yesterday, LCDS had the privilege, through the Safer & Vital Communities Grant, of bringing Jincy George and Red Rabbit Learning to lccviupdates in Petrolia for an inspiring workshop all about understanding one another.
Students took part in thoughtful conversations about the differences between bias, prejudice, discrimination, and hate, and how embracing our unique perspectives helps create safer, stronger, and more connected communities. Jincy’s compassionate approach encouraged everyone to reflect on the importance of empathy and awareness in their daily lives.
A huge thank‑you to LCCVI for welcoming us into your classrooms, and to Jincy George for sharing her expertise and creating such a meaningful learning experience.
Together, we’re helping build more inclusive communities across Lambton County. 🌱✨💚💜

Last night, the 1st Petrolia Scouting surprised our team at Petrolia Enterprises with a beautifully handcrafted paddle, a thoughtful thank‑you for sharing our woodworking space over the past four weeks.
During their time with us, Scouts worked hard to create their own paddles, which they’ll use on their adventures this spring and summer.
It was a wonderful opportunity for LCDS and Petrolia Enterprises to give back, build connections, and support a great group of young people in our community. Thank you, 1st Petrolia Scouts, for the meaningful gift and for including us in your journey!

At LCDS, we are proud to celebrate the unveiling of the beautiful new welcome mural at City Hall in Sarnia last week. Many of the people we support, along with our staff, call Sarnia–Lambton home, and this artwork reflects the community we all share.
The mural by local indigenous artist .rayn forms an important part of the City of Sarnia’s work to uphold the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP). It stands as a meaningful reminder of the deep and enduring relationship between Sarnia–Lambton and the Council of Three Fires Confederacy—the Ojibwa, Odawa, and Potawatomi Nations.
We are especially moved by the mural’s representation of women as life givers, knowledge keepers, and the foundation of families. These themes resonate strongly with our values of honouring all voices, nurturing connection, and recognizing the strengths each person brings to community life.
This mural is more than a work of art, it’s a living expression of truth, history, and presence. It tells stories that must be seen and remembered, while creating a space of welcome, reflection, and belonging for all who enter.
LCDS affirms our commitment to walking alongside Indigenous communities with humility and respect. We honour the leadership of Chiefs and Elders, and we remain dedicated to advancing truth, reconciliation, and meaningful, lasting relationships grounded in respect and collaboration.
