🧍‍♂️Construction Worker with Recurring Low Back Pain

This 40-year-old patient came in with severe low back pain, aggravated by sitting and bending—common in people who do a lot of lifting for work. He rated the pain 8/10 and said it’s been flaring up on and off for years.

Spondylolisthesis is a spinal disorder in which a bone (vertebra) slips forward onto the bone below it.

Spondylolisthesis risk factors include high-impact sports, such as gymnastics and football. Genetics may put some people at increased risk. Spondylolisthesis is a condition that can create spine instability, which means the vertebrae move more than they should. Slippage and instability can put pressure on your spinal nerves, which could cause lower back pain or leg pain.

The word spondylolisthesis (pronounced spohn-di-low-less-THEE-sis) comes from the Greek words spondylos, which means "spine" or "vertebra," and listhesis, which means "slipping, sliding or movement." Your body has three types of movements: Segmental, regional, and whole body. Segmental motion occurs between the individual joints of your body.
