This year’s event holds special meaning as it honours the legacy of Deputy Fire Chief Jim Young, who passed away earlier this year. Jim was the inaugural winner of the Bake Off in 2007, earning top marks with his unforgettable apple pie. In tribute, organizers are introducing a one-year-only commemorative Apple Pie category. Fire departments from across the region—Prince Edward County, Belleville, and Quinte West—along with the broader community, are encouraged to submit their best apple pie in Jim’s memory. Special awards will be presented in this heartfelt category.

Thank you Wellings!!

The 5th Annual Car Wash & BBQ hosted by Wellings of Picton raised $795 in support of the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation’s Back the Build Campaign!

That brings the cumulative total raised from the car wash to $4,035 — an amazing contribution from their team and the community over the past five years. 🙌

Staff from Wellings rolled up their sleeves to wash off the summer dust, serve up BBQ, and rally support for a new hospital. 🏥💙

We are so grateful for our ongoing partnership and to our wonderful community for participating year after year. Together, we are building something amazing. 💪✨

When seconds count, so does community. Thanks to a $150,000 gift-in-kind from Picton’s Base31, emergency air ambulance services are continuing uninterrupted while the new Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital is being built.

Base31 has generously provided the location for the temporary helipad, ensuring Ornge Air Ambulance can quickly transfer patients to life-saving care without delay.

This incredible partnership between Base31, the PECMH Foundation, and Quinte Health is a shining example of what we can achieve when we come together for care close to home.

Join us in thanking Base31 for helping our community stay safe during this exciting new chapter for PECMH!

👷‍♂️🚧 “My New Hospital” – through the eyes of our youngest neighbours 🚧👷‍♀️

Every morning at the HUB Child & Family Centre, the soundtrack isn’t just laughter and learning — it’s the crunch of gravel, the hum of machinery, and the sight of a crane building the new Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital right next door.

For the children, this construction is more than a project — it’s personal. High-fives from the crew, ever-changing views, and the thrill of watching “their” hospital take shape have sparked big imaginations and even bigger smiles.

This morning, representatives came together to celebrate that excitement. The kids received mini hard hats and safety vests to join the honorary build crew, and a custom “I Spy” game that will turn their daily observations into an adventure.

When asked what the hospital will be like, they didn’t hesitate:

✨ “Bright and big.”
✨ “Huge.”
✨ “Bigger… with rainbows.” 🌈

They dreamed up a kids’ space filled with toys, books, crafts, and cozy corners — a place to feel safe and happy. And when it came to messages for the construction team, the answers were simple but heartfelt:

💬 “Good job.”
💬 “Thank you.”
💬 “We love the new hospital.”

From their window-side view, these kids are watching more than a building rise — they’re seeing community in action. And we think that’s something worth celebrating. ❤️

🏗 Did You Know?

As we build the new Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital (PECMH), we’re using some seriously strong materials. We're building it with mass timber that's not just sustainable—it's heavy-duty:

🪵 Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) Panels — 1,200 to 5,200 lbs
🪵 Columns — around 1,800 lbs
🪵 Beams — anywhere from 2,600 to 5,000 lbs

To put this into perspective:
🐄 1,200 lbs = A grand piano or a full dairy cow
🦌 1,800 lbs = A moose or a vending machine fully stocked
🚚 5,000 lbs = A big truck or a small camper trailer

It takes a lot of power, planning and precision to move materials like this! With every beam, column, and panel put in place, we move a step closer to opening the doors of the new PECMH.

Our Story

We are an independent, registered charity. We raise funds to help renovate and maintain our County Hospital and to purchase medical equipment such as vital signs monitors, vital diagnostic tools, scopes and much more. Your financial contributions have allowed us to invest over $7M in our County Hospital. Unlike operating costs, medical equipment is NOT paid for by the government. Communities must equip their local hospital. Your support means we have reliable equipment. That helps the hospital keep services cost effective and available close to home.
