Shelby Ranch is located at 753 Durham Road in Scotsburn, Nova Scotia. We are a Western riding facility that offers a variety of services for beginner to intermediate riders from ages 2 to senior. Ride one of our safe, patient horses in our indoor arena or explore beautiful forest trails. Send us a message to book a private or small-group riding lesson or trail ride, available 7 days a week. Ask us about our lesson packages, therapeutic riding program, wagon and sleigh rides, riding membership, and birthday parties.

THANK YOU for your patience everyone 🤍❄️

I am working my way through all of our messages! Most of you who had bookings (or were hoping to book) for tomorrow should have heard back from me by now. If I missed you, please send me a little reminder sometimes things get buried when the snow is flying!

If you inquired about another date, I’ll be working through those messages next. Thank you for hanging tight while I get everything organized.

We still have openings for Family Day at the Ranch this Sunday! 🐴❄️
Sleigh rides, animals, fun, fresh air the whole ranch experience.
You can grab your tickets online before we fill up!

The last 48 hours have mostly been consumed by:
✔️ Plowing
✔️ Breaking sleigh trails with snowmobiles
✔️ Packing trails with the horses

And of course… a few classic ranch moments:
🚜 Breaking the bucket lever on the tractor
❄️ Getting the little snowmobile stuck in a snowdrift. When in doubt, Shelby screams and applies more gas. Elizabeth was an absolute trooper and hung on for the ride 😂

Meet Nel – Our Gentle Soul

Around here we say rides with Nel runs on “Nel Time.”

Nel is our quiet babysitter of the barn. On trail rides, she goes at her own steady pace and takes care of her rider every single step of the way. If you’re feeling nervous, Nel is your girl. She has a way of making even the most unsure rider feel safe and confident.

Nel joined our herd back in 2018 as our very first draft cross, helping us start the journey of offering wagon rides and sleigh rides. She’s strong, steady, and has the biggest heart.

💘 This Valentine’s Day, Nel will be doing some special sleigh rides for two… and trust us, there’s no better date than a quiet ride behind this gentle lady.

Meet Taco 🌮
Full of personality, unlimited facial expressions, and yes… he definitely has resting b*tch face. Taco is a dual-registered Quarter Horse/Paint Mr.Taco Tastic with a reining background and a whole lot of miles teaching riders how to ride with confidence.

He loves humans more than other horses (no offence, herd), and Carole is his special human ❤️. Taco truly doesn’t know he’s a horse; his spirit animal is a grumpy old man who’s seen some things. But don’t let the sass fool you… underneath it all, he has a heart of gold, will do absolutely anything you ask, and has so much to teach his riders.

💛🐴 Three Years of Love, Treats & Nickers!

February marks 3 years of Carole leasing Taco here at Shelby Ranch, and what a special bond it’s been. Carole isn’t just Taco’s person she’s also stolen the heart of Fletchie too.

The moment Carole’s car pulls in, Taco and Fletchie make their way to the gate, patiently waiting, ears up and nickering away. It doesn’t matter where they are on the property once they spot her, their focus is locked in. We’re pretty sure it has nothing to do with the endless treats… okay, maybe just a little 😉

Happy 3 years with us, Carole! We love having you around just as much as our ponies do, and we’re so grateful to watch these beautiful bonds grow year after year 💕
