Family Resource Centre, host to SNAP west island The official page for the Centre Famille SNAP Family Center Boys and girls attend gender-specific weekly group sessions for 13 weeks.

SNAP®, which stands for Stop Now And Plan, is an evidence-based behavioural model that provides a framework for teaching children struggling with behaviour issues, and their parents, effective emotional regulation, self-control and problem-solving skills. SNAP helps troubled children and their parents learn how to effectively manage their emotions and "keep their problems small". Originally, the p

rogram was developed by Child Development Institute, an accredited children’s mental health organization in Toronto, in 1985 as an intervention program for boys under 12 in conflict with the law. Today: the gender-sensitive SNAP Boys and SNAP Girls programs are designed for children ages 6-11 who are engaging in aggressive, anti-social behaviour and/or have come into contact with authority figures at school or in the community. Children and families participate with the goal of preventing future anti-social behaviour and reducing the chances of conflict with family, peers and authority figure. They learn how to use SNAP in different situations through engaging activities, including discussions, role-playing and interactive games. A variety of topics are discussed such as: dealing with angry thoughts and feelings, self-control, problem-solving and bullying. The parent group meets concurrently with the SNAP boys/SNAP Girls groups. Parents learn effective child management and SNAP strategies. The group also provides parents with an opportunity to make connections with other parents facing similar challenges. We also offer:
*Individual child counseling/mentoring and community connections
*School advocacy/Teacher support
*SNAP Parenting - Family Counseling
*Crisis Intervention
*Long Term Connections and Continued Care

**All our services are free of charge**

The SNAP Family Center was represented at the Women in Action Forum by its Director, Deborah St-Martin. Robert-Baldwin MP Brigitte Garceau invited us to celebrate the progress made possible by the determination of women past and present, while highlighting the continuing challenges and solutions that must be built together. At the end of the forum, we were invited to a cocktail party celebrating 85 years of women's right to vote in Quebec. It's always nice to meet up with colleagues from the West Island.

Notre histoire/Our Story
