Earl Joseph Morrisseau

03/22/1960 – 03/25/2026

After a lengthy illness Earl passed away at the Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg, with his daughter Kristy by his side, Earl went quietly on March 25, 2026

Earl was predeceased by his Mom Elsie Isabel Morrisseau, Dad Conrad Henderson (Meade), brothers Glen Arthur Morrisseau, Dale Anthony Morrisseau, nieces Kelly Morrisseau, Katrina Ray Guimond, Glenny Shorting and grandson Austin Moosetail. Earl was born in Sagkeeng Anishinaabe Nation. Earl and his siblings were taken and placed into the Fort Alexander Indian Boarding School. When he was older, he was then placed in the Assiniboine Residential School. The Trauma of being taken from his parents created a lifelong battle for healing. The life of struggles did not kill the kindness and compassion in Earl’s Spirit. Earl was a good friend to many people in all walks of life, from street folks to dignitaries, politicians and artists. His friendliness and generosity was well known and appreciated in and outside of the community. Earl was instrumental in starting and assisting in many endeavours. He co-created the Winnipeg Native Alliance friendship club. The Winnipeg Native Alliance was a haven for troubled youth, and for adults just wanting a healthy place to hang out with other Indians with aims to escape gang life. Earl helped with the 1998 Ogichidaa Ceremonies in Winnipeg. It was here Earl met Ogichidaa Terry Nelson, Clyde Belcourt, Eddie Benton, Dennis Banks and other AIM members. Earl would go on to solidify his commitment of an Ogichidaa with Three Fires in the US. He was always willing to help people. Earl was a loyal friend and loved his family dearly. He would often speak of his family with glowing stories of their accomplishments and their character. We will miss the story telling talent which Earl aka “The Bird,” carried.

The label of Ogichidaa epitomizes Earl perfectly; Ogichidaa is the Great Hearts and indeed Earl did have a great big heart.
