In this scene Forest Gump doesn’t necessarily understand Jenny’s grief, but he sits with her and accepts her expression without judgement. This approach can be so helpful to the one who grieves. Often the most helpful is someone who will join them without judgement or advice but simply with presence as a witness of the pain.
