National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

September 30th, 2021 marks the first National Day for Truth and reconciliation.

Today is to honour the lost children and Survivors of residential schools, their families and communities. To honour and recognize the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools.

Today, I am taking time to reflect, as a privileged white settler, on my biases, racist tendencies and cultural appropriation.

I commit to unlearn, re-learn and continue to learn.

I commit to acknowledge the land on which I live, play and work as stolen and not my own.

I commit to table my white fragility and not make it anyone else's problem but my own.

I commit to taking a stand and being a voice for the vulnerable.

I commit to sit in my discomfort and challenge myself everyday.

I commit to accepting my failures.

Hello September!

I am so excited for what September has to offer.
We are taking some much-needed time away to recharge! While there may still be some posts from time to time, we will be unplugged and soaking up some of what mother nature has to offer.
I find that September is always such a transitional month. I spend a ton of time focusing on what is next, where I want to go and how I am going to get there. Relationship building with myself, and others is always super important.

My name is Janine Jordison, and I am an end-of-life doula and grief support worker with .

This is a picture on my wedding day in Maui of my husband and I, his son and family and my best friend and husband.

My best friend died just a few weeks after our wedding. It was one of her last wishes to be with me while I celebrated my love with my partner. She got on a plane at her most fragile and sickest moments of her life to be with us. Her gift to us was not only her presence, but the gift of her love by making the long journey to be with us. When we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised to find that our room was full of flowers when we arrived.

Everything about her was from a place of love, even her end of life wishes and making sure that not only herself care was noted, but ensuring others were prepared and looked after.

Her journey at end of life was long and tough and she did her best to make her process as normal as possible. She knew how her journey needed to unfold and even though she didn’t have full control of everything, she did her best to have her wishes known. Her comfort care and having conversation with her loved ones was so important to her.

The importance of making this plan and noting our end-of-life wishes is such a great gift to give our friends and family.

My plan is to make sure that all of my wishes are documented and known so that I am able to spend time together with my friends and family at my end of life. I want that intimate time to remember the great times we had, being with each other and sharing in laughter.

My wishes are in place to alleviate the stress for my family and allow everyone to have their moment to grieve knowing that everything will be taken care of.

Let this be your plan as well. And while you think that this isn’t something you need to worry about now, because you are young, because you are healthy, and talking about death is just crazy!, please be reminded, we simply don’t know what life has in store for us.

Please consider this; since no one knows when we will die, wouldn’t you feel better knowing that you have left behind an amazing gift for your family?

I am currently accepting new clients who are looking to put together their plan and document their wishes around their care and end of life matters. That amazing gift for your family.

I am offering 30-minute free consultations to allow you a chance to interview me and make sure that I am the right fit to walk you through this journey.

Literary Resources for Children

When Dinosaurs Die - A Guide to Understanding Death.
- Laurie Krasny Brown & Marc Brown

I absolutely love using resources such as books to speak about death, dying and grief with children. Reading books together takes the fear out of conversation and normalizes the process in a story format.

I personally, as an adult, and an educator, I find a ton of comfort myself in children's story books. Perhaps it is my inner child, arms open ready to live life through characters within the books.

I find children very receptive to books and it really encourages conversations.

When Dinosaurs Die, is a very direct approach in a story format. It lacks metaphors that create confusion and uses proper words such as death, dying, illness and other death related terms. It honours the cycle of life and all things at end of life including ceremony that encourages children to be a part of the process.

Aquarius Full Moon Blessings from Ridge Meadows Wellness!

Falling in the sign of Aquarius, there is the potential for this Full Moon to amplify change, activate our desire for greater freedom, or shine a spotlight on all that needs to be revolutionized in our lives.

Aquarius energy is all about doing things differently and stepping away from our comfort zone in order to experiment with something new. It encourages innovation, growth, and looking at things from a new perspective.

With the Sun also wrapping up its journey in the sign of Leo at the time of this Full Moon, there is an added boost of creative and courageous energy on offer to us, which can be used to help any new visions take flight.
