A message from our founder:
RIP: WE LOVE & MISS YOU DEARLY MAMA SCHWARTZ ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
10 years ago, May 14, 2012,
the morning after Mothers Day, Mama Schwartz went home to Heaven after battling the horrific brain deterioration disease, Alzheimer's!!
My hubby Greg & I have endless amazing & precious memories of her that we reminisce, laugh & cry about everyday, but we still miss her like crazy❣️ Mom was the sweetest, most loving & fun person on earth and the best mother-in-law on the planet that a girl could ask for. I adored her!!
She & I were very close like best friends. Mom & my father-in-law embraced me immensely from day one that Greg & I were together!
Mom had developed a very severe & violent case of Alzheimer's as the years went on, but no matter how bad she got, we were ALWAYS VERY COMPASSIONATE, LOVING, CALM, COMFORTING & UNDERSTANDING, which are all very essential qualities in caring for any Alzheimer patient.
It was extremely hard for Greg & I to watch her brain literally deteriorate more & more with each passing day before our eyes, but we were determined with conviction to never put her in a nursing home. It is understandable that not everyone is able to do that and a nursing home may be the best option. Greg promised his mom he would never do that to her or allow it to happen. I am so incredibly proud of him. His Mom & Dad were his world, and Mom had a special bond with her son! He was definitely a "Momma's Boy!"
My husband and I were mom's full-time live in caregivers for several years determined and focused to give Mom "Quality of Life" in every way possible by not just caring for her 24/7, but also making life happy & fun for her!
We had a ton of day & late-night dance parties every week, (she loved to dance, hence the dance industry her son is in for a living) along with bowling, lots of card games & puzzles, weekly movies at AMC theatres, as well as a ton of Cubs baseball games because she loved her Cubbies! She always got an autographed baseball from a Cub player! They loved her!
We learned so much through our hands-on experience. Mom's doctors all told us that we did such an amazing job caring for her that we should be the poster child for Alzheimer's Caregivers!
Greg & I felt the burning desire to share our knowledge with other caregivers, so I started this page, Alzheimer's Caregiver Support (ACS) in Momma Schwartz's honor and in memory of her, in an effort to lend support to ALZ caregivers around the globe❣️
My dream was to reach 10,000 Alzheimer's Caregivers across the globe, and I'm honored to say, we have connected with almost 40,000 beautiful souls around the world between Facebook and Instagram.
It has been incredibly rewarding & heart warming to Greg & I and our entire ACS team to have helped so many thousands of ALZ caregivers in need.
Thank you for sharing your stories, and for venting, crying, laughing, learning, and reminiscing with us. These past 10 years have been heartfelt getting to know you and our dream is to continue this page for years to come. Love you all!
A huge thank you to all of our past and present volunteers that help keep our ACS page running. Current volunteers are Kathie, Rebecca, Kris, and my VP of Operations, Kelly! Ladies, you are all incredible and Greg & I are blessed to know you.
If you know of anyone caring for an ALZ loved one and they need help or just someone to talk with, please direct them to our ACS webpage! Thank you.
"Together we can make a difference."
