*FREE WEBINAR EVENT: Thursday, February 17th at 7:00 PM EST*
In this webinar, you will shown how to describe an integrative COMPASS Assets model of psychosocial strengths that can be fostered to buffer stress and promote emotional well-being in the face of challenging circumstances. This model is derived from Dr. Barker's recent research aimed at identifying patterns of distress and resilience across the transition to adulthood and in university students in particular. Participants will have the opportunity to work through a COMPASS self-reflection exercise to generate strategies they can use in their lives to manage stress.
Join us for this CPPA Student Ambassador Program webinar with Dr. Erin Barker, Professor in the Department of Psychology at Concordia University.

The Canadian Positive Psychology Association is giving a webinar this evening at 7pm on the benefits of generosity and it's impact on our happiness with Dr. Lara Aknin.

Did you know that the yogic concept of cultivating generosity is called daana? There is a lot of overlap between positive psychology concepts and ancient Indian philosophy!

Cette webinar est seulement disponible en anglais, mais le CPPA donnent des webinars en français aussi.

Although humans are often accused of being cold, selfish, and solitary creatures, a growing body of research demonstrates that people not only engage in generous behaviour, but they appear to experience pleasure from doing so. In this talk Dr. Aknin will present research supporting the hypothesis th...

It feels like most EMOTIONS are all over the place these days. Some are big and some are small. They come when we least expect them, and we also question the reason for them. This pandemics’ state of affairs, has generated this roller coaster 🎢 of ups and downs, that can be almost impossible to handle. Naturally we want to escape, repress, forget or ignore, given the unsolvable situation. However, long-term avoidance, can create more chronic somatic and mental health difficulties:

🌱headaches and digestive problems
🌱tension in the body (unable to relaxe)
🌱extreme-stress
🌱sadness (crying)
🌱anger (anxious feeling)

Emotions are random, and are not for us to cherry 🍒 pick, based on our preference. Heck I’d choose happy, joy and peace all the time. But this is not how this works. What does work is to sit with it.

Sitting with it means we allow for this TEMPORARY emotion to be there, without question, or judgement, without getting all into our head about the why. We notice and acknowledge it and let it be.

Practice sitting with it for a few moments a day. This can be from 30 seconds to all day. Practice with the family as well.
