We offer individual, one-on-one lessons for children and adults of all ages. Our teaching philosophy stems from our background of practical music education in central Europe and North American music research and experience. The main components of our classes are:
Piano: Learning basic keyboard skills is essential for a sound grounding in the western musical system. It is also one of the easier in
struments to master and provides great motivation. Voice: Training the voice is a great way to teach performance skills, boost self-esteem, and provide a rich cultural background at a basic, human level. At a young age, voice training emphasizes folk songs and songs that make up our cultural fabric. Violin: Classical, Suzuki, Jazz, Folk, and other styles with an emphasis on enjoyment from the beginning. Guitar: Introduction to guitar, group or individual lessons, ukelele for the youngest players, many styles. Recorder or Flute: Basic technique, breathing, note-reading, posture and position. Ballet and Modern Dance: Small group sizes, all ages, qualified teachers, live music; classes for young children in Pointe-Claire, Quebec on Thursday afternoons. Children ages 2 to 12 have a great time learning the basic movements involved and interacting with friends and with their teacher. For more information please contact us. Introductory Music for Babies and Toddlers: An introductory course with plenty of singing, games, and movement, exploration of rhythm and basic musical concepts in a structured and fun environment. Music Theory: Music literacy is important, especially in the formative years, and forms the base of other musical endeavors. Ear Training: During the music lessons, students are trained in basic ear training. This includes concepts of Major and minor keys, intervals, harmony and melody. Rhythm: Rhythm is another integral part of music training. We try to bring out the intuitive feelings of rhythm in each individual both through notational and practical exercises. Besides these main components, we also offer lessons in percussion and some other instruments. FortePiano offers lessons both in a well-equipped studio where we have all the tools and materials necessary, and in your own home. This second option works well for those with an already busy schedule. Our lessons are appropriate for all ages, starting at 3 years. Most often it is easiest to begin at a very young age as children who are this young do not display the inhibitions of older children and playing and reading comes more naturally to them. Adults are also welcome and the lessons are tailored to their needs on a case by case basis depending on their needs and desires. Some adults are looking to continue or re-start previous musical efforts, others are interested in taking a new and fulfilling hobby. We offer courses for mothers and their babies from six months on. These include listening, singing, motion with music, rhythm, and auditory development.
