What if I told you the high amounts of stress my body is going through could be killing me the same ways as the person out there doing drugs! Would you believe me?
Now that I have your attention …Stress has become an unwelcome companion for many, lurking in the shadows of our daily lives.
While occasional stress is a natural response to challenges, experiencing high levels of stress constantly can be detrimental to our health.
Just like drugs, it triggers the release of cortisol and other stress hormones, which, when elevated for prolonged periods, can wreak havoc on our bodies. From weakened immune systems to increased risk of heart disease, the impacts of chronic stress are profound.
The constant stream of stressors leaves little room for relaxation and restoration, leaving individuals feeling depleted and exhausted, both mentally and physically.
While society often portrays stress as a symbol of productivity, and drugs socially not acceptable! it’s essential to recognize the dangers of living in a chronic state of tension.
For a lot of us, sometimes we can’t just snap our fingers and make the stress go away. It takes work to be able to adapt, and implement practices to work with the stressors.
By acknowledging the parallels between chronic stress and drug abuse, we can begin to destigmatize discussions around mental health and prioritize self-care as an integral part of overall wellness.
In my 4 week challenge starting March 1, we will work on stress and how it affects us on all levels!
Having the awareness, we can start to address this silent epidemic and pave the way for a healthier, more balanced lifestyle.
