Yoga Therapy Classes are back!

Hi, my name is Kris, and I'm a IAYT Registered Yoga Therapist and a 500 RYT here in central Alberta, and I'm offering up some classes in Ponoka again.

We have two different series of drop-in Yoga Therapy classes.

Both will run for 10 consecutive weeks.

All the info can be found on the posters, and if you haven’t joined these classes before, the following is a bit more about what to expect.

1. Monday Drop-in: 7 pm, begins October 2nd through December 4th for 10 consecutive Monday’s.

- Bring your own mat (if you don’t have one, I have a few to borrow)

- Ideal for absolute beginners or experienced practitioners.

- I’ll be combining strength, mobility, and stretch work.

- This class provides an opportunity to explore movement at your own pace and in safe and supported way.

- You will learn how to regulate your nervous system, both amping it up and calming it down.

- There is an element of education and learning, I want to provide you not only an experience but simple tools to use daily as you move through life.

- I love breaking down movements into component parts. This simplifies things, and allows you to find a way of exploring a pose, stretch, or strengthening movement that meets your body’s ability.

- Class run 75 minutes, and sometimes we run a few minutes long.

2. Chair yoga: 9 am, Friday’s October 6th to December 8th for 10 consecutive weeks.

- All you need is a blanket and indoor shoes/slippers/socks

- Zero experience required

- Ideal for those with mobility limitations and those who don’t feel comfortable being on the floor

We all know what happens when we stop moving well and we slow down, so this class is specifically designed to help you maintain the basics to keep you moving through life with ease, freedom, and grace.

- Class is 1 hour

Friday Chair Yoga, we had a great turnout, thanks to everyone who made it out! We've got a fun little community building here and we are up to some great stuff in this class!

Hello!

My name is Kris, and I’m excited to announce a new therapeutic chair yoga class at the Senior Drop-in Center!

This class is intentionally designed to help seniors and a wide variety of people with mobility limitations.

In this class, I will help you find a movement practice that is supportive, safe, and accessible to all.

Together we will explore and learn how to improve our mobility and strength in a way that supports our day-to-day activities. Secondly, as you learn these invaluable tools, you will gain the ability required to keep doing what you love for as long as possible.

I married my wife Kirsten in 2016, we moved back to her hometown Ponoka in the summer of 2017, not only to be closer to family but to purchase our first home and start a family of our own. We now have a three-year-old daughter, Hazel May!

In May of 2020, I graduated as a Certified Internationally Accredited Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT). Prior to that I’ve been studying the biomechanics of movement, pain science, and have run a private practice that supports people in pain management, goal setting, and life skills from a physical movement perspective. Over the last 4 years, I’ve helped a wide variety of people and athletes out of pain and back into a life they love.

I have also spent over 4 years working as a casual on-call Psychiatric Aide in both geriatrics and brain injury, and I continue to work both privately and part-time. Through this experience, I have discovered some key components to mobility that are paramount in keeping seniors and people with limited mobility moving through life safely and effectively.

I have consistently seen two things.
1. What happens when people stop moving well, life becomes very challenging, day-to-day tasks become out of reach, and assistance is eventually required.
2. What happens when people apply a simple and basic movement practice to their life, they maintain independence with day-to-day tasks, they continue to live at home and continue to do what they love, and more!

It is a deep passion of mine to help people get the most out of life and to support anyone interested in acquiring a greater sense of strength, steadiness, and ease in both body, mind, and spirit.

Come join us for a warm evening of self-care, therapeutic movement, and breathwork starting at 7 pm at the Senior Drop-in Center.

These classes are designed for you to reconnect to your body in a way that cultivates ease, stability, and strength.

Tonight we focus on the hips, shoulders, and spine. You get to explore your own unique movement patterns, build new awareness, and walk away feeling lighter, calmer, and stronger.

You will learn...

- Some basic self-care techniques that when applied at home with consistency, go a LONG way!

- What to do when those aches and pains show up.

- How to relieve tension and pain.

- And more importantly how to identify some of the root causes that contribute.

Good Day!
We're on for another Tuesday Night of Therapeutic Yoga.

Tonight's class is designed for all ages and abilities. These classes are ideal for anyone wanting to reduce pain/strain & just feel better in their body.

Last week we had 18 show up, so make sure to arrive early and get a spot!

A big thank you to Ponoka F.C.S.S. for sponsoring this class that is available to the community. That being said tonight is the last class of sponsorship for now. The following classes will be a cost 15.00 / class. So get out tonight and soak up the goodness of a healthy body healthy mind!

These classes are different, not your regular yoga class...

These classes offer up a space to slow down, connect, and learn a new set of skills.

You can expect to grow a deeper level of awareness around your own unique movement patterns

Because you can't change what you're not aware of.

It's not about following along or keeping up.

It's ALL about providing support to your system, exploring movement, cultivating ease, and moving in a way that works for you.

Hello and good day!

This email is here to update you on the current status of our drop-in yoga class held at the Ponoka Senior Drop-In Center.

The Ponoka Senior Drop-in Center has opted into the Restriction Exemption Program provided by the Alberta Government.

This means that in order to enter the Drop-in Center for any program available, proof of vaccine must be provided. If you have only one ONE shot, you must be past the two-week window from your first shot.

We understand there are different viewpoints on this topic and we hope you can understand the direction being taken.

We are very fortunate to use the drop-in center and respectfully we understand that many people who attend the drop-in center are seniors who may have a variety of underlying health complications and/or comorbidities. We believe these steps are here to keep everyone safe.

Online Virtual Yoga Classes:
We have a fantastic online platform for you to enjoy the benefits and results of yoga therapy from the comfort of your own home. These classes are awesome and run weekly. If you are interested in learning more about practicing from home, please email: inglis.kris@gmail.com
