🌿 New Blog Post 🌿

We’re honoured to share a new blog by Rob Tate: Medicine Wheel Wellness.

In this piece, Rob reflects on teachings he has carried for over 30 years, offering a thoughtful blend of lived experience, Indigenous knowledge, and clinical insight. Grounded in the Medicine Wheel, this blog explores balance, connection, and what it means to care for ourselves across all aspects of wellness.

Whether you’re familiar with these teachings or just beginning to learn, this is a meaningful and grounding read.

Check out our latest blog post written by Robert Tate. Rob is our Clinical Psychology Doctoral Intern from the Psy. D program at Concordia University Edmonton. We have been lucky enough to have Rob choose to join our team for the past 8 months, despite having to drive from Edmonton!

He has been a gift to our team, to our clinic, to our clients and to our communities. Thank you to all the clients who have trusted their care with all of our interns. You are integral to their growth as a clinician and allowed them to hone their counselling skills. It is an opportunity to merge that book knowledge into real life, with real clients. Where they have to weave together psychological theories, insight, intuition and observation.

In this blog post, Rob shares some of himself, his wisdom and personal journey with us all.

I am always grateful to learn from students. We are a learning facility, because we never stop learning and growing together. Thank you.

Understand the Medicine Wheel’s role in mental health and explore Indigenous approaches to wellbeing, with access to NIHB-funded services in Alberta.

Big hearts and mixed feelings over here as we head into our last week with our expectant mommasđź’š
Any guesses who’s heading off on mat leave? 👀👇

We are so excited for them to each welcome a new little life into the world, we’re also going to deeply miss their presence and their influence in the clinic.

This season is full of love, change, and big milestones, and we’re cheering them on and praying for safety every step of the way. 💫

We are sending LOTS of LOVE out to EMMA and DAVID LUCE as well as KELLY and MO ZANDT as they welcome their babies into this world.

This Valentine’s Day, we’re thinking beyond cards and chocolates. ❤️

Love can look like setting boundaries, asking for help, repairing relationships, or finally being kind to yourself. It can mean showing up for the hard conversations and or choosing rest when you’re exhausted.

At McKinney Psychology, we see that real care isn’t perfect or polished. Real care is honest, brave, and deeply human.

Today, we’re sending appreciation to our clients, our team, and our communities for doing the work that actually matters.

Happy Valentine’s Day. Take care of your heart, in all the ways that count. 💚

Please join us in welcoming Nicole Philpot to the McKinney Psychology team! đź’š

Nicole is a Master of Counselling Psychology intern from Athabasca University, completing her graduate training with us under the clinical supervision of Caleb Reardon, with the support of our entire team.

She works with youth and adults across Alberta, offering trauma-informed, client-centred counselling. Nicole has a background from post-secondary counselling programs, work with youth in schools, family support programs and community based mental health settings.

Her areas of interest include complex trauma, neurodiversity-affirming care, family systems, gender-affirming counselling, and support for individuals impacted by violence and high-conflict situations. She is known for her calm, respectful presence and her ability to create a safe, inclusive space where clients feel truly heard.

✨ Nicole is offering low-fee counselling services, helping make quality mental health care more accessible.

Welcome, Nicole!! We’re so glad you’re here. If you would like to access sessions with Nicole, please call or text the clinic at 403 783 1854.

Proud moment for us. đź’š
We’re honoured to be highlighted as a success story by Apeetogosan (Métis) Development Inc. and Pinnacle Business Supports. Their guidance and belief in our work helped turn ambitious plans into real, grounded growth. https://www.apeetogosan.com/success-stories

In just over a year, McKinney Psychology Inc. has grown from a team of 4 to a team of 14. We have gutted a building, built out and furnished 7 treatment rooms, and completed a big move.

It’s been a wild ride. One built on big vision, long days, and a deep commitment to our team and our community.

When Indigenous-led, community-rooted businesses are supported, the ripple effect is real. We are so proud of our team, and so grateful for the support. We are still getting settled into the new to us space and we hope to unveil our new website soon! mckinneypsych.com
