Thank you Gord Johns! A true champion and we are so lucky to have you working so hard for equity in mental health.

Gord Johns for Courtenay-Alberni, MP, has been a steadfast champion for community-delivered mental health services in Parliament. His leadership has helped keep access to care at the forefront of the national conversation at a time when need for services is growing.

We met with MP Johns to discuss a critical next step for mental health care in Canada.

Local mental health services across the country rely on federal funding agreements to address long waitlists, strengthen prevention, and support recovery close to home. Canada faces a $600 million annual shortfall for mental health investments without renewed commitments in the next federal budget,.

📱 We raised the urgent need for Health Minister Michel to renew these agreements so communities can continue delivering the care Canadians depend on.

We are grateful for Mr. Johns’ long-standing advocacy and his continued support for ensuring Canadians have affordable, equitable access to mental health and addiction services.

-----------------------------

It Is with great sorrow we offer condolences to the victims, families, and community of Tumbler Ridge. We send our thoughts to the teachers who did everything they could to keep students safe and to first responders, health care workers and all who have provided care to those injured and their loved ones. We lift up the memories of those lost with honour and compassion.

Our hearts are with all those who have lost loved ones, those who have been injured, and everyone impacted by the tragedy in Tumbler Ridge yesterday.

Many people across British Columbia may be experiencing grief, fear, shock, or distress in the wake of this tragedy. Support is available, and no one needs to navigate this alone.

Hello all. There has been some chatter recently about CMHA. CMHA’s Board of Directors, staff, and management wish to clarify aspects of our service model. CMHA is an accredited, audited, non-profit/charity organization that follows all legal requirements, allowing us to serve our vulnerable population with ethics and professionalism. All of our well scrutinized legal documents are publicly available, as is our Mission, Vision, and strategic plan. We hold many contracts which allow us to provide service to community, from multiple levels of government, foundations, and grantors. All contracts, grants, operating agreements, legal partnerships have come to CMHA through proper processes, including requests for proposals, calls for expression of interest from government, as well as competitive grant applications through other funding bodies. There has been no preferential treatment given to CMHA-Port Alberni. Our leadership, management team, and staff have provided consistent professional service within all legal and contractual obligations and parameters. CMHA-PA has always supported and will continue to hold up our many compassionate and hard-working service delivery partners, as we all have a valuable and vital role to play in uplifting our community. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Katrina Kiefer, CMHA-PA Executive Director at katrina.kiefer@cmhaportalberni.ca
