Finally I met the famous expressive arts therapist Ariel Luo 💕
Many people have asked me before if I do the same thing as Ariel. Actually, it’s both similar and different 😁 The similarity is that we both use art as a medium to achieve therapeutic outcomes, but as an art therapist and clinical counselor, I work with clients through creative projects. Often, an image can lead to a clinical conversation.
Art therapy draws on a psychodynamic approach, using art to help clients process their emotions. It’s like being transported back to those scenes in American TV series where clients sit on the couch and we discuss their problems 🛋️ Often, different psychological theories, such as cognitive behavioral theory and internal family systems, are incorporated to explore the client’s issues.
Expressive arts therapists, on the other hand, integrate a variety of art forms, such as drama, music, dance, writing, and visual arts, to promote their clients’ well-being and personal growth. So, while the approach is purely visual, it can also integrate with body-stimulating elements to achieve healing and soothing effects.
Anyway, we can all help groups or individuals who want to use art as a medium for emotional well-being. 😙 I’m also looking forward to doing a podcast with Ariel to talk about expressive arts therapy. 🎨
And, let me share her upcoming workshop for those who want to experience it 🖼️
