Had a wonderful night at the Mayor’s Charity Ball, supporting the Coquitlam Firefighters Charitable Society and the Port Coquitlam Charitable Society. It was a sold out event, and the theme was a masquerade ball! The fundraiser was a huge success and exceeded last year’s donations. It was fun night, watching the camaraderie and rivalry between the Coquitlam Mayor Richard Stewart and PoCo Mayors Brad West and their respective councils :).

Network Hearing was proud to donate a prize to its live auction and we continued to support the fundraising events of the evening too. The firefighters’ charities fund many wonderful initiatives for our communities including the Nutritional Snack Programs for Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam elementary schools.

Update on our recent mishap!

A colleague asked us yesterday how our “drive-thru” venture was going?

After 2 msec of thought on this, we decided we still prefer walk-in services, so the wall underneath our broken window is currently being fixed. A replacement window will come later.

It’s challenging for any business to have repairs done during opening hours but try doing them when you’re a hearing clinic! We built our clinic with excellent sound attenuation in mind but it’s no match for jackhammers, power drills, and nail guns!

We’ve given out hearing protection for our front office staff and clients in the waiting room and we’ve had to pause our testing in between the raucous bangs, whacks, whirs and yammers.

So a friendly reminder to everyone to use hearing protection when handling loud tools. And if you prefer custom ear plugs, contact us today and we can take impressions of your ears and order customized hearing protection for you. And we’ll give you some disposable ear plugs for the interim if you arrive when the construction is going on!

We are very thankful no one, including the driver, was injured in this incident and that the aftermath is just a temporary inconvenience. Let’s be careful out there! And protect your hearing while you’re at it :)

Hello everyone!

It’s been awhile since our last post! We’ve been incredibly busy these past couple of months…most notably we passed our 1 year milestone! Yep, Sandra and Grace started last year with big dreams for Network Hearing and one year later, we’ve exceeded our expectations! We have many things to update you on!

So what’s new with us lately?

We’ll start this week off with a (literally) breaking news story about a little mishap that happened yesterday afternoon:

A car accidentally crashed through our front window! It was quite the sight! As part of our milestone celebrations, we may be offering “Drive-thru Audiology Services” and we’ll throw in some doorcrasher specials while we’re at it! :)

All joking aside, we are incredibly grateful no one was hurt, including the very apologetic driver. We are glad this happened on a Sunday when no one was in the office.

We wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to the PoCo Fire and Emergency services who secured the scene and to our neighbours and patrons of Westwood Centre for their kind support and to the friends and family who came by to help us clean up. We are extremely thankful there were no injuries and today, it’s business as usual….although it might be a tad chilly inside.

Come down for a visit if you’re in the area and you can ooh and ahh at our new (and temporary) soundproofing idea for a window.

In the meantime, stay tuned for more updates!

We hope you’re enjoying your BC Day long weekend!

We spent some time hanging out with many former colleagues this weekend including Henry Lam and Yat Li and who should we run into? None other than our awesome old boss of days past…the Honourable Peter Julian ! It’s been more than twenty years since Peter was the Executive Director of a non profit at which Network Hearing co-founders Sandra, Grace and our colleague Henry worked. How time flies! Peter was an amazing and inspiring leader and treated us with respect, dignity and inclusiveness - qualities that you don’t always find in management these days. Such wonderful memories of that time. Peter’s mentorship shaped us to be the considerate leaders we are today!

We’re so grateful to be part of such a wonderful network of colleagues and friends :).

Wishing you all a lovely long weekend. Network Hearing is closed today in recognition of BC Day and will reopen tomorrow at 9 am.

A large and growing proportion of British Columbians have hearing loss. And more than 75% of seniors have hearing loss in both ears. Left untreated, hearing loss can lead to feelings of isolation and withdrawal and lead to poorer health outcomes.

Hearing loss cannot be “fixed” by a simple solution. Hearing loss is a complex condition that needs a comprehensive solution for anyone who relies on their hearing to communicate - there is no one device nor magic pill to resolve hearing loss.

Hearing Health services, including the use of hearing aids, by qualified clinicians like Audiologists, are needed in order to help people manage their hearing loss through their lifetime.

But BC lags behind other provinces when it comes to providing coverage for hearing aids and related services!

Network Hearing’s co-founder Grace Shyng, co-chairs a grass roots committee to help raise awareness of the importance of hearing health care and to advocate for better hearing health care in BC.

Please visit www.helpbchearbetter.ca and sign our petition today to get the word out and improve access to hearing health care in BC.

Thank you for your support! Pls share our website and petition with your colleagues, friends and family!

So proud of our Network Hearing co-founder Sandra Baker for participating yesterday in the 2023 Ride for Kids fundraiser that supports the Canuck Place Children’s Hospice, which helps children with life-threatening illnesses receive critical care. Sandra was part of a team that has raised almost $17,000 so far! Well done Sandra! We’re in awe! Participants cycled 90K (that’s right - 90!) to support this great cause.
