What Should I Expect from My Physiotherapy Visit?
During your first physiotherapy visit, you can expect a comprehensive assessment and a tailored rehabilitation plan with a registered physiotherapist (RPT) . Here's what to anticipate:
Initial Assessment: Your physiotherapist will evaluate your condition, discuss your symptoms, and take measurements. They will also perform physical assessments to diagnose your issue.
Customized Plan: Based on the assessment, your physiotherapist will create a personalized rehabilitation plan that aligns with your current physical abilities, goals and lifestyle. This plan generally includes hands on treatment (manual therapy), modalities (ice, heat, ultrasound, acupuncture etc.) and general guidelines for home activities (posture, activity level and workload). The plan will be developed with your input and consent for care.
Home Exercise Program: After the assessment, you'll receive a home exercise program to help you recover and improve your mobility.
Personalized Treatment: The treatment plan will be tailored to your specific needs, considering your medical history, medications, and any chronic conditions.
Remember, your physiotherapy visit is a crucial step in your recovery journey. It's important to stay consistent with your exercises and follow your physiotherapist's guidance to achieve the best outcomes.
If you feel any of these steps are missed or you are uncomfortable with any aspect of the treatment, discuss it with your physiotherapist (who should be available to answer your questions at each visit). Together you can make a plan to reach your goals.
Always ensure you are seeing a registered physiotherapist when seeking physiotherapy care.
