Did you know chiropractors can help martial arts experts with spine, muscle and joint issues, including injury prevention?

Recently, Dr. Paolo De Ciantis led a workshop with Black Belt World Toronto and CMCC chiropractic interns to address common hip pain complaints, stiffness and mobility issues associated with martial arts. The workshop also involved self-care and injury prevention - which are also areas of expertise for chiropractors.

Chiropractors are spine, muscle and joint experts. Visit your local chiropractor to help achieve your mobility goals!

To every rider making the trip to our little corner of Lake Erie β€” welcome back.

For the riders β€” welcome, and be safe out there. If your body needs some attention after the journey, you know where to find us.

Keep these tips in mind when you hop your ride:

Targeted Strengthening: A strong core and upper body are what actually stabilize you during long rides.

Injury Prevention: Dynamic warm-ups (like bum kicks or ITB side bends) prime your muscles before you even hop on the bike.

Active Recovery: Post-ride stretching is critical for lengthening muscles that have been in a flexed position for hours.

Gait aids are quite easy to set up but we continue to see many people with them set up at the wrong height. To set up the grip height properly, stand up straight with hands relaxed at the side, adjust the aid so the grip sits at the wrist crease (the spot where your wrist bends). If you are using underarm crutches the top should NOT touch your axilla (arm pit) it should sit 2-3 fingers widths beneath the axilla. Improper set up can cause damage to the nerves under your arm, increased strain of the shoulder and elbow and put yourself at risk of falls due to decreased control. If you are using a crutch or cane that is only on one side it should be on the opposite side of the injury. The assistive device on the opposite side of the injury balances your gait, prevents limping and decreases the risk of back and hip injuries.
If you have any questions about how to use your gait aid please contact us as using it improperly can lead to bigger issues than the one you started with. We want you to be safer with your assistive device not more at risk.

Spending long hours at a desk? Your body notices. Forward head posture, rounded shoulders, and tight hips are some of the most common complaints we see β€” and they're often tied to how we sit.

A few small adjustments go a long way:
β€” Screen at eye level
β€” Feet flat on the floor
β€” Movement break every 30–45 minutes

Questions about posture or desk-related discomfort? We'd be happy to help.

MYTH OR FACT?

Myth: If you have back pain, you should rest until it goes away.

Fact: For most types of back pain, staying as active as possible β€” within your comfort level β€” tends to support recovery better than extended bed rest. Movement helps maintain circulation, flexibility, and muscle strength.

Of course, every situation is different. If you're unsure what's right for yours, our team can help assess what's going on.
