It’s always nice to get feedback from my clients. A lot of people put off getting treatment for their pelvic health issues because they are too embarrassed or afraid of the physical exam. I do my best to allow my patients feel comfortable, seen and heard. It’s why I book longer appointments as pelvic health can also be very emotional, and I never want to rush my patients.

I really do love my job! Don’t let your pelvic floor hold you back from the life you want to live! Book an appointment before the September rush!

BIRTH 🤰PREP:

Are you due 🤰in September, October, November or December? If so, it’s time to book in with a pelvic health therapist if you haven’t already.

Did you know in many European countries prenatal and postpartum physiotherapy is part of a standard of care?

WHY SEE A PELVIC FLOOR PHYSIO BEFORE BIRTH 🤰?

The pelvic floor stretches 4x its normal length with a va**nal birth!!! It’s a group of skeletal muscles šŸ’Ŗon the inside of our body. Pelvic floor muscles have a role in bladder 🚽and bowel šŸ’©control, core strength, and it acts like a sump pump for our lymphatic and veinous systems. It’s also very abstract, many people have no idea what the status is of their pelvic floor. It’s important to know if your pelvic floor is strong and flexible and if not, it is something you can work on BEFORE birth šŸ‘¶. These are some things a pelvic health physio can help you do:

1). Learn to correctly use your pelvic floor muscles and address any issues with tension. Ideally in the early second trimester, but it is never too late!

2). Learn how to push effectively. A lot of women have difficulty relaxing when bearing down, and struggle with effective breath techniques. It’s important to relax the pelvic floor to reduce tearing.

3). Perineal massage. This is an effective technique that can help prepare your mind and body to reduce the risk of significant tears. This is recommended to start between 34-36 weeks.

4). Guidance with exercise. It is important to stay active and maintain strength throughout pregnancy. If you are concerned about certain exercises or have pregnancy related discomforts, a pelvic floor physiotherapist can guide you.

5. Managing pelvic girdle pain. This condition is common and can be debilitating. You don’t have to suffer.

6.). Guidance in the early postpartum period. On my last visit before birth, I guided my patients with gentle movements, breathing exercises they can do postpartum to help support recovery. I also give them resources if they end up having a c-section or struggle with breastfeeding.

If you are due in 2025, make sure to book schedule an appointment. Knowledge is power and birth preparation is key!

This book is an easy read with great advice for men who have had or are about to have a prostatectomy
Obviously see a pelvic health physio first to ensure you are engaging your pelvic floor properly, but this is a great book that guides you along from the son of a prostate cancer survivor.

It’s another week at the clinic. It’s so important to prioritize your pelvic health as it truly does impact your quality of life.

Sometimes our pelvic issues hold us back from exercise for fear of leaking, or sometimes from pleasure because of pain with in*******se (both males and females can suffer from this).

Being pregnant and birthing a human, either va**nally or via c-section comes with their own recovery challenges along side looking after a helpless newborn.

A postpartum body often feels foreign to a new mom. It’s important to remember that 6 weeks is not adequate for recovery and it is more like 9-12 months. In Chinese medicine postpartum is 2 years.

We need to move and exercise our bodies to help with bone health, build muscle, cardiovascular health, maintain balance/flexiibility and our brain health.

We cannot let our pelvic floors limit our activities and our physical and mental health.

Please see a pelvic health physio if you are experiencing:

- stress urinary incontinence

- urge urinary incontinence

- mixed incontinence (stress and urge)

- pelvic organ prolapse

- dyspareunia (a fancy name for pain with
in*******se that both men & women can experience this)

- constipation

- birth preparation

- pelvic girdle pain in pregnancy

- discomfort in pregnancy

- postpartum core recovery and scar mobility

- interstitial cystitis/painful bladder syndrome

- pre-prostatectomy prep and post prostatectomy rehab

- recovery from pelvic radiation treatment

- chronic pelvic pain (both make & female), post pelvic sugery recovery and so much more.

PELVIC ORGAN PROLAPSE

Did you know that over 50% of women šŸ‘©ā€šŸ¦³ will experience some form and level of pelvic organ prolapse over their lifetime?

Symptoms of pelvic organ prolapse include: heaviness in the va**na, a feeling of your insides falling out, bracing your perineum is order to have a bowel movement, and seeing a bulge/tissue at the va**nal opening.

Most prolapses can be managed conservatively without the need for surgery by:

* Seeing a pelvic health physio to assess strength and tone of pelvic floor, core, gluteal muscles

* Avoid constipation šŸ’© and optimize bowel health

* Pelvic floor and full body progressive muscle training šŸ‹šŸ¼ā€ā™‚ļø

* External supports such as SRC Health or EVB shorts 🩳

* Internal support such as a pessary

* Topical products such as va**nal estrogen or over the counter Hyaluronic acid products ie. Repagyn

* Manage chronic respiratory 🫁conditions ie. chronic cough.

If you are experiencing prolapse symptoms, there is so much you can do. Book in for a pelvic health appointment and ask me for my POP handout.
