Clinic update from Dr Armogam:
Dear North Island patients,
While changes with health care in our region and issues around access to medical services across the region and province continue, I wanted to update you on a few changes with our clinic which will take effect from the start of June.
There have been renovations, and we can now accommodate other family doctors and specialists. You will continue to have access to the clinic nurse and foot care as well as all the community services including social work, mental, health, dietitian, diabetes educator, OT, physiotherapy, and the home support team.
New health ministry guidelines for patient attachment have informed some changes. Doctors and patients tend to value the established professional relationship that they have. This is now more of a standard where patients need to identify a family practitioner for their care as part of an attachment process and longitudinal care. With issues across the region, your wait time could be weeks. If this still meets your expectations for non-urgent family practice issues, we are pleased to continue with your care and are accepting new patients. As you may know, there are new clinics in Port Hardy and Port McNeill as an alternative and while ER access remains problematic it is available for urgent medical issues.
The clinic nurse will continue to be available to you for things like injections, ear flushes, suture removal, etc, and will also be involved in your chronic disease management like hypertension, COPD and diabetes but will be limited on usual clinic appointments that you would usually see the doctor for.
Please stay on top of your prescription renewals as there will be some changes to the process on how these are refilled.
We do not expect changes to the schedules or care to Woss.
Zeballos and Wuikinuxv (Rivers) community visits are tenuous according to recent health ministry decisions but will continue for now.
I do have a contract to continue providing care to Sointula but am unable to comment on the change in the care delivery there. Irrespective of which community you’re in, we remain committed to providing care to you and your family despite the changes and regional challenges.
