Hi, I’m Valerie — the owner and face behind Nested Roots Senior Support 🌿

I thought I’d take a moment to introduce myself. I’ve been living in BC for 11 years, and started Nested Roots almost three years ago.

I’m a Mom to my wonderful 7-year-old son, and we live in Port Moody with our two cats. I grew up in a small town in Ontario, but BC truly feels like home now. In my free time, I love yoga, reading, and getting outside for a walk or paddle board when the weather’s nice.

I’m constantly in awe of the beauty here, and so grateful for the community we’ve built. My son loves his school, and we’ve met some incredible people along the way. (Also… I don’t think I could handle Ontario winters anymore 😄)

Since starting my business, I’ve had the privilege of supporting some amazing clients. Over time, those relationships grow into something really special — it often feels like extended family as we move through different seasons of life together.

I’m so grateful to do this work, and I look forward to many more years of supporting seniors and their families in the Tri-Cities. Thank you for making Nested Roots such an important part of my life 💛

The Smiths struggled to find in-home support for their father—every visit brought a new worker, making trust and communication difficult.

Sometimes visiting a loved one with dementia in long term care can be daunting!

Here are some suggestions for 💡Conversation Connections💡 this Valentines’ Day weekend:

💘 I love Valentines’ Day! What kind of things would be nice to get/give as a gift? (Perfect open ended question where no answers are wrong!)

💘 I wish I could get dressed up to go on a Valentines’ date! If you were to go on a Valentines’ date, what would you wear? Where would you go?

💘 Hm, I wonder if Valentines’ Day was popular when you were a kid? (A simple prompt for reminiscing about long-term memories, and if no response then share your experiences from when you were a child!)

Imagination, playfulness and flexibility are your friends when keeping conversation going with a person living with dementia. We don’t have to focus on accurate details, instead we create joyful feelings and positive interactions!
