Myopia is a growing eye problem… and not just literally. When the eye is too long, light focuses in front of the retina and causes distance vision to be blurry. But did you know that high myopia increases the risk of serious eye conditions such as myopic degeneration and retinal tears?

At Port Moody Eyecare, we offer myopia control options such as glasses, contacts or eye drops. Talk to our team today about which options that may be right for your child. Preserving their sight and setting them up for a better visual future starts today.

It’s national eye exam month!

When was your last eye exam? Here’s some guidelines from the Canadian Association of Optometrists for how often you should be seen:
👓 Children: yearly to make sure they are seeing and learning as best as they can
👓 Adults: every 2 years, but more frequent if they have eye conditions (e.g. glaucoma) or increased risk of eye conditions (e.g. diabetes)
👓 Seniors: yearly to identify potential concerns as early as possible

July is dry eye awareness month 👁️

Did you know that dry eye disease is not just characterized by dryness? It can manifest as itchiness, burning, grittiness, fluctuating vision and even watering!

These symptoms occur when the eyes do not produce enough tears or when tears evaporate too quickly. Causes are most often multi-factorial, meaning that treatment plans need to be personalized and a one-size-fits-all approach isn’t always effective.

Call us today to book your dry eye assessment; we offer both in-office and at-home treatments. With the right plan, we can help restore your comfort and reclaim your quality of life.

Tomorrow is National Sunglasses Day!

Sunglasses are more than a fashion statement, they have a big impact in protecting eye health. Cumulative UV exposure can lead to cataracts, macular degeneration and growths near or on the eye.

Don’t forget that UV rays can pe*****te clouds, so it’s important to stay protected on overcast days too. This summer, stay cool with some stylish sunglasses and if you need help looking for a new pair, check out our collections at either location!

June is cataract awareness month 👁️

Did you know that cataracts are the leading cause of blindness worldwide?

Prescription changes usually keep up with early cataracts, but advanced ones typically require cataract surgery. In fact, 1.5 million people have cataract surgery every year in Canada!

To protect your eyes from fast-progressing cataracts, wear sunglasses outdoors and attend routine eye exams with your optometrist. Help us shine a light on eye health and schedule that eye exam today.
