We are so grateful to be a recipient of a 2025 Community grant from the Port Moody Foundation that will help us grow our Music Therapy program at CVS. The Foundation supported a grant for our initial Music Therapy program in 2024 and we were delighted to see that they supported helping us expand the program in the coming year. Our Director of Finance and Business Management, Melda Okucu, proudly accepted the grant at the Foundationโs AGM in June.
Thank you again to the Port Moody Foundation for all your support for what we do at CVS.
On June 24th at the Port Moody Foundationโs Annual General Meeting the board was thrilled to present cheques to the 2025 Community Grant recipients. This is the most fulfilling thing we do as a foundation and is always a much anticipated event. Over the next little while we will be highlighting each grant recipient, the good work they do in the community and what they will be doing with the grant funds they have received. We are pleased today to showcase the -
CVS Music Therapy Program Expansion.
The purpose of this funding request is to expand the music therapy program funded by the Port Moody Foundation in 2024 to a wider group of people we support. We launched the 2024 program in September and, in only 5 months, we have experienced resounding success with the people we support. We worked with a smaller budget of $2000 ($1500 from the Port Moody Foundation and $500 through private donations). This enabled us to support a small group of people working with a local Music Therapist. The program demonstrated a wide range of benefits including: (1) increased engagement; (2) improved motor skills; (3) social (4) enhanced; (5) positive emotional impact - and (6) family interest - families were vocal about continuing the program due to its positive impact on their loved ones.
This further funding will allow us to expand this out to more of the people we support at CVS. The people we support at CVS have developed a strong relationship with the music therapy provider and they have identified a number of ways we can enhance the therapy. We would like to utilize the power of music to create a positive impact for the people we support on a larger scale with the help of the Port Moody Foundation.
