March is Brain Injury Awareness Month.
Brain injury affects millions of people, but it often goes unseen. A brain injury can happen to anyone, at any time, in any place. Many brain injuries are invisible, yet they can affect how a person thinks, feels, moves, and experiences the world.
Brain injury awareness matters because people matter. By increasing understanding, we help create safer, more supportive communities for everyone.

Interesting statistics about MAiD from Inclusion BC

The Special Joint Committee on MAiD has been brought back together. This committee of MPs and Senators will consider whether the government should legalize MAiD for mental illness. It meets for the first time tomorrow (Tuesday) evening.

We urge the committee to start by considering how Canada’s current MAiD law is working. Our infographic shows some clear problems. The data is from Health Canada’s most recent MAiD monitoring report, the 6th annual report:

Thank you Roy for your advocacy and dedication to this fundamental human right.

Inclusion Canada applauds the House of Commons for unanimously supporting Bill S-228. Bill S-228 would amend the Criminal Code to clarify that forcing or coercing a person to be sterilized is aggravated assault.

Canada has a troubling, well-documented, and ongoing history of sterilizing people with an intellectual disability without their consent. When Inclusion Canada’s board member, Roy Skoreyko, learned about Bill S-228 he said, “that happened to me.”

Roy met with Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes MP Jamie Schmale, a champion for Bill S-228. Roy asked the MP to help other people with an intellectual disability who were sterilized to know that this bill is about them. Roy was certainly heard!

Let week, MPs from four parties spoke about Bill S-228. Each one said the words “disability” or “eugenics.” Thank you to MP Schmale who mentioned Roy by name and said Bill S-228 “tells people that their voices were heard, that what happened to them was wrong and that they will not be ignored.”

The day highlights the freedom, independence, and mobility that wheelchairs provide, honours wheelchair users, and raises awareness of the many millions of people who still lack access to this essential assistive technology.

At CVS, this Black History Month, we honour and celebrate the ongoing impact of Black leaders advancing disability rights and inclusion across Canada.

We are proud to highlight the work of the ASE Community Foundation for Black Canadians with Disabilities, a national Black led, Black serving, and Black focused organization advancing disability justice and inclusion. This month, we celebrate ASE and all those whose leadership and advocacy continue to create pathways toward dignity, belonging, and full participation.

ASE’s work centers lived experience through education, policy analysis, youth empowerment, community engagement, and accessible resources, including Canada’s first Black focused disability knowledge hub. Their approach reminds us that true inclusion requires collaboration, action, and systems that support everyone’s rights and contributions.
