The Howdie was Scotland’s handy woman. She attended every birth, untied knots in the mother’s clothing to make way for baby. She burned juniper to protect the home. She passed oatmeal so the present women could bless the mother. She ensured the mother was cared for. Rested, fed, and unburdened.

It wasn’t superstition, it was wisdom. It was tradition, and it was the village. They were doing exactly what the village is meant to do.

We didn’t lose this traditions because they didn’t work, we simply stopped passing them down.

I’m starting a series about ancestral birth and postpartum care from cultures around the world (starting with Scotland because it’s mine 💚). Your body has always known what it means, sometimes you just need someone to remind you!

Save this, there are more coming!

And if you’re pregnant and planning for postpartum care and craving this kind of intentional hands on support, DM me POSTPARTUM IMMERSION to talk about all of the delicious details!

Is this normal? Why do I feel so emotional when I love her so much? How long does the bleeding last? Why didn’t anyone warn me about the night sweats? Am I doing this right?

We were so prepared for the birth.

The bags were packed. The nursery was ready. The freezer meals were made. The car seat was installed.

And then the baby came.

And nobody prepared us for 3am with a baby sleeping quietly next to us while our minds raced. Nobody prepared us for how much our bodies would need and how little support would show up to meet those needs.

If this is you, or was you, you’re not failing.

You’re postpartum and you deserve a village who shows up!

Drop a 💚 if you’ve been that mom at 3am. Share this with someone who needs to know that she’s not alone.

I couldn’t even fit my boots on when leaving the hospital after my C-Section.

It’s important to know that a C-Section is major surgery. Your body redistributed fluid during that process and somewhere around day 2 or 3 it will have to find its way back out.

The swelling can look and feel alarming and it’s often not discussed when going through discharge paperwork.

Here are some things that can help!

Save this before you give birth so that you’re not stuck googling at 3am while your socks cut into your ankles.

And if you’re planning for postpartum after a c-section and want someone in your corner for those early weeks, DM me the word IMMERSION

This is a placenta!

It grew alongside you and your baby from a single layer of cells. By the time that your baby was born, it probably weighed around 500g and held about half of a litre of blood.

For 9 months, it was your baby’s lungs, exchanging oxygen and carbon dioxide so your baby never had to breathe. It was your baby’s kidneys, filtering waste from the blood. It was your baby’s digestive system, absorbing nutrients and delivering them in exactly the right amounts

Your placenta produced hormones that sustained your pregnancy. It transferred antibodies to your baby in the final weeks, beginning their immune system before they even took their first breath.

It is a completely temporary organ that built itself, did one of the most complex jobs in human biology, and then delivered itself when its work was done.

And to think, most people never see it. I love the new wave of clients who are determined to change that!

Did you take time to look at your placenta?

Postpartum trends I actually need to see more of in 2026.

Not the kind that go viral for 48 hours and disappear. I want to see the kind that shift how we care for new mothers.

Some of these are physical and some are systemic. Some might make the people around you uncomfortable. That discomfort is where the conversation starts.

Swipe through and save the ones that hit home. Share this with whoever you think could benefit from reading it.

If you’re pregnant and thinking about what support looks like after your baby arrives, DM me IMMERSION. I would love to chat!

The pressure we put on new mothers to bounce back after birth is one of the most harmful things we offer them.

Your body grew and birthed a human over the span of roughly 9 months, why do we think it should spring back in far less time?

As you go through matrescence, your mind is going through a complete rewiring. You’ve been rebirthed.

You are not behind, nor are you failing. You’re in the thick of one of the most demanding seasons of your life and you deserve to be held through it.

THIS is what postpartum care is designed to do.
THIS is what I am here for 💚

Nobody warned me about the night sweats 🥵

Those first two weeks postpartum really test you. It is by far some of the most intense moments that your body will go through, aside from birth. Why are we still going into it unprepared? Not anymore!

Swipe to see what’s coming so you can meet it with information instead of fear.

Don’t forget to save this for when your baby arrives or send it to someone you know is expecting!

Join us on the third Tuesday of each month in this live session held by me and Greater Toronto Doulas!

Think of this session as a doula consult/ opening door to deciding on whether or not a doula is the right move for your birth and postpartum journey. Inside we lay out what our support looks like and how it can be tailored to you and your families’ needs.

At the end, we have lots of opportunities to ask questions and connect with other attendees.

Hope to see you all there!

The new palette that all of the cool moms will be wearing this spring!

Coming to you never, because it’s April Fools! But, could you imagine? 🫣😂

I became a doula because I know what it feels like to walk into a birth room and not know your rights.

No one should feel that way.

Every woman deserves to feel powerful, informed, and truly held during one of the most sacred moments of her life. Swipe to see what I wish someone had told me sooner.

Save this for your birth prep. Send it to your birth partner. Tag a mama who needs this today.

When you are ready, I am here. Free consults are open. Link in bio.

Birth looks different when you’re in a room where physiology is trusted.

Last month, I had the honour of supporting a fellow doula and friend through her own birth, and witnessing how knowledge, preparation, and a calm environment truly change the entire experience.

What stood out to me most wasn’t just the strength (though, wow), but the self-trust.
Every position she chose had a purpose.
Every sound told us exactly where she was in the process.
Every pause was her body leading the way.

As doulas, we educate families on these things every day… but seeing a colleague embody those principles so naturally was a reminder of how powerful birth can be when someone feels safe, supported, and informed.

Birth is not about managing a woman, it’s about reading her cues, protecting her space, and letting her physiology do the work.

So proud of her. So grateful to witness it.
And so reminded of why I’m in this work.

✨ If you want a birth that feels aligned with your instincts and grounded in evidence, you deserve support that honours both.
