Did you know??

Physiotherapists are direct access practitioners, meaning that patients can visit physiotherapists directly without the need for a physician’s referral. Being able to self-refer to a physiotherapist benefits both the patients and the healthcare system.

Some of these benefits include:
- Timely access to care can mean faster diagnosis and treatment
- Reduced overall health care costs
- Reduced referral volume to specialists
- Better patient satisfaction

A friendly reminder - it is your personal recovery, and the clinic you attend is YOUR choice.

A friendly reminder - it is your personal recovery, and the clinic you attend is YOUR choice.

Did you know the Canadian Physiotherapy Code of Conduct preserves your right to choose which clinic you want to go to — no matter who is paying?

That means people involved in car accidents, WCB (work-related injuries), legal cases, and sports teams or organizations are all currently free to decide where they receive treatment — without worry of any negative impact to their case or situation.

Some insurance companies or employers may provide a list of “preferred providers,” but this is only a suggestion — you are never required to attend a specific clinic. Your claim, benefits, or case will not be affected by choosing a physiotherapist you trust.

Because physiotherapy is a regulated medical profession, your rights as a patient are protected under the Canada Health Act and by the Canadian Physiotherapy Association, which promote ethical and patient-centred care for all Canadians.

Your recovery, your choice.
