Sometimes, things just come together: the right idea, the right community, the right person. That's what happened for Cheryl Milne, who just opened Katcher Guidance in the middle of August. "When you’re starting a business in Powell River, everyone is excited for you and asks ‘how can I help?’. June might have started out rainy and cool, but the weather seems to have turned, which means it's a great time to get outside. It's also a great time to profile one of Powell River's newest businesses, Palli Paddle Boards. Brandon Frey is the first franchise owner/operator for this Victoria company, and he can't wait to help Powell Riverites and visitors get out on the water!

Summer seems to have finally come to the upper Sunshine Coast, and for Brandon Frey, June was the perfect time to launch his new business, Palli Paddle Boards Powell River.

Welcome to Powell River, Brenna! In our latest entrepreneur profile, we talk to Brenna Wear, a new registered massage therapist now taking clients here. She and her husband moved to Powell River in January, and are looking forward to building their life here.

Brenna Wear moved to Powell River in January 2021, and for one of our community’s newest registered massage therapists, the city was the perfect crossroads of everything she and her partner wanted in a home.

Seven years ago, we started with a simple purpose: to tell people about Powell River and encourage people and businesses to move here. That purpose hasn't changed, but we realized that our title, 'Live and Invest,' doesn't quite cover it - there's so much more to Powell River these days! We talked to a lot of people, did a lot of thinking, and realized that while yes, we do still want people to live and invest in Powell River, we really want to facilitate discovery. Discover our natural beauty, discover the friendliness of your neigbours, discover the opportunities this growing community has to offer, and most importantly, discover yourself again in a place that gives you the space to think and breathe. We're so pleased to see OneLight receiving support from both Powell River Community Forest Ltd. and the Province of British Columbia to grow their social enterprise and make a difference in the lives of many people and families in Powell River!

It's green all winter in Powell River, so when spring arrives, we start looking for other things. Cherry blossoms, daffodils, extended hours at our garden supply stores, and vegetable starts outside all the major grocery stores are just a few of the things that tell us spring is here!

For us, the colour white doesn't really mean winter, because we so rarely have snow on the ground for more than a week. Instead, we look for the colour white as one of the first signs of spring. Around town, gnarled old trees and smooth young ones begin to flower with white and pink blossoms before....
