This Easter season, we take a moment to reflect on themes that are shared across many traditions — renewal, hope, compassion, and love for one another.

For those who observe Easter, the story of Jesus is a powerful reminder of sacrifice, forgiveness, and the possibility of new life. Across cultures and beliefs, this time of year invites us all to reconnect with what matters most: caring for one another, supporting healing, and believing in transformation.

At Miklat Recovery, we witness every day that change is possible. People rebuild, rediscover purpose, and move forward with strength and dignity — supported by community and compassion.

However you celebrate this season, may it bring you peace, renewed hope, and a sense of connection to others.

Warm Easter wishes from all of us at the Miklat Recovery Program. 🌱💛

There’s something powerful about giving back to the people who have quietly supported you for years.

Today, our Miklat crew had the opportunity to lend a hand to the Powell River Healthcare Auxiliary as they moved a massive truckload of donated items into their new space. What started as “just helping out” quickly turned into a couple of sweaty, hard-working hours of hauling bags, lifting boxes, and sharing laughs—done with genuine appreciation.

The Healthcare Auxiliary has stood behind Miklat in ways that have made a real difference in people’s lives. From essential equipment like commercial laundry machines, medication safes, dish sanitizers, fridges, and freezers—to something as simple yet meaningful as clothing packages for new clients arriving in treatment—they’ve been there, time and time again.

So when the chance came to support them, it wasn’t a question—it was an honour.

This is what community looks like. People showing up for each other. Volunteers giving their time to raise funds that directly support healthcare services in Powell River. Quiet acts of generosity that ripple outward and change lives.

To the Powell River Healthcare Auxiliary: thank you for everything you do. Your impact reaches further than you may ever see, and today we were proud to give a little bit back.

Youth services are an important piece of the continuum of care,. Early intervention will help youth avoid what some of us have to deal with later in life, when addiction has taken a much stronger foothold in our lives. Foundry is trying to address the gaps in support. Please come out and support their fundraising dinner. Let's be a part of the solution! ❤️

People in recovery in Victoria, who are ready for independent living, can soon move into new transitional homes at Johnson Manor. Victoria Cool Aid Society will manage the 20 recovery-oriented one-bedroom homes at 1153 Johnson St. Residents will be welcomed in early April.

Individuals who are a minimum 60 days sober, as well as post-detox and treatment, will have supports to help build an abstinence-based lifestyle, including peer-supported coaching and referrals to other services.

Assisting people who are ready to move into recovery-oriented housing will free up supportive housing spaces in other buildings so others experiencing homelessness can come indoors, making our community safer and stronger for everyone.

Thank you to our partners, City of Victoria - Local Government and Victoria Cool Aid Society, for coming .

Today we celebrate something truly incredible — 28 years of sobriety for our co-founder, Sean S.

Sean, your dedication to recovery, to the newcomer, and to the families and friends who walk alongside this journey has made a lasting impact on so many lives. You show up with honesty, strength, and a willingness to say what needs to be said — never sugarcoating, always grounded in truth. But what sets you apart is your heart: open, curious, and deeply committed to helping others find their way.

You are a driving force for change, a steady hand in the storm, and truly one of a kind.

From everyone at Miklat — thank you for your service, your leadership, and for walking this path so boldly.

Congratulations on 28 years, Sean. 💙

Big congratulations to Brandon H. on his graduation from the Miklat Recovery Program 👏❤️🎂

Brandon was a model client from day one—committed, focused, and willing to do the real work. He showed a strong determination to work the steps and face the parts of himself that needed healing. That kind of honesty and courage is what recovery is all about.

What really stood out about Brandon was his compassion for others. He went out of his way to support another client by reading the steps with him so he could continue his own journey. That’s leadership. That’s brotherhood.

Around the house, Brandon brought a steady, positive presence. Whether it was stepping up as a driver between McGuffie, Arbutus, and meetings, or just keeping things light with his quiet sense of humor—he made an impact. Friendly, compassionate, and grounded, with a sensitivity that shows real depth of character.

Brandon understood what he needed to do to succeed here—and he did it. We’re proud of the man he’s becoming and hopeful that he continues to show up for himself, one day at a time.

We look forward to seeing you around McGuffie, Brandon. You’ll always be part of this community.

Today we celebrate Jacob J. graduating from the Miklat Recovery Program — and what a journey it’s been.

If you’ve ever met Jacob, you probably noticed the tattoos on his face before anything else… but it didn’t take long to notice the big heart, the sense of humour, and the way he could make the whole house laugh.

Jacob showed up every day ready to do the work. Whether it was groups, chores, conversations, or just being part of the community, he gave it his best shot. And one thing that really stood out about him was how well he took advice — he listened, reflected, and kept moving forward. That kind of humility and willingness to learn goes a long way in recovery.

He worked hard, laughed hard, and proved that when someone is willing to put in the effort, real change is possible. We’re proud of you, Jacob. The next chapter is yours to write — and we’re all cheering you on.

Congratulations, brother. Keep going. 👏

We are incredibly honoured (and honestly still a little surprised!) to share that Miklat Recovery Program has once again received the Powell River Business Award for Non-Profit Excellence — 2026.

This recognition means so much because it comes from our own community — a community that believes in recovery, second chances, and the power of people helping people.

A heartfelt thank you to the Powell River Chamber of Commerce for this acknowledgement, and to the people of qathet who continue to stand beside us, support our work, and cheer on the men and families walking the path of recovery.

But the real credit belongs to our extraordinary staff and counsellors. Day after day, they show up with compassion, patience, humour, and unwavering dedication. The work isn’t easy — it asks a lot of the people who do it — but watching lives change, families reconnect, and hope return makes every long day worth it.

The evening itself was full of proud moments. We were thrilled to see Steve Macleod recognized for the incredible work at Convenient Chef, and it was pretty special seeing Zach, Gus, Brandon and Howard absolutely running the kitchen and serving an amazing meal. And congratulations to A&W as well — made even sweeter knowing one of our grads is part of that team. Recovery showing up everywhere in our community… we love to see it.

Awards are wonderful, but the real reward is witnessing someone believe in themselves again — sometimes for the very first time in years.

Thank you, Powell River, for believing in recovery as much as we do. We’re grateful, humbled, and more motivated than ever to keep doing the work.

❤️

Healthy nutritious food is a very important part of recovery. What you consume relates closely to how you feel. We love our chefs who put their hearts into the food we serve and it shows. Thank you to Zach, Benny, and Gus for all the effort. Everyone appreciates you guys so much.
