For this week's 'Mission Monday' Sr. RéAnne shared with us some incredible links between the work we do here at Mont St. Joseph and what the astronaughts on Artemis II had to say:
Recently I watched an interview with the four astronauts on NASA’s Artemis II moon mission. I never would have thought that what I heard would reflect who we are at Mont St Joseph’s.
(Below is the link where you can hear the entire interview, but here are some highlights of how they articulate some of the ways we live our Mission, Vision, Core Values, Eden Alternative Domains of Well Being)
1. Reid Wiseman (Commander)
- “It’s a special thing to be human and on planet earth”.
- Highlights gratitude and family.
2. Victor Glover (Pilot)
- Thanked God in public at the beginning and wanted to end that way.
- “The gratitude of seeing what we saw, being with who we were with - it’s too big to be in one body…the gratitude to be in this agency together.”
3. Christiana Koch (Mission Specialist)
- Reflected on the difference between a crew and a team:
“Crew - a group in it all the time, no matter what, stroking together every minute with the same purpose, willing to sacrifice silently for each other, holding one another accountable, same cares and needs, beautifully linked.”
- What struck her was the black around the Earth- “That earth was just this lifeboat hanging in the universe…Planet Earth, you are a crew!”
4. Jeremy Hansen (Mission Specialist)
- Highlighted 3 of the human experiences; “It was the human experiences that touched us the most. Sounds like it’s what touched you as well.”
- Gratitude: so much to be grateful for…
- Joy: the joy train… “Committed to getting back on the joy train. This is a useful life skill for any team trying to get something done.”
- Love: “to love contributing, having meaningful contribution, and extracting joy out of that”. With their arms linked standing up together – “We are a mirror reflecting you… If you like what you see, look a little deeper. This is you!”
Mont St Joseph Vision: “A Welcoming Christian Community Giving Life Meaning” (MSJ Family)
Mont St Joseph Mission: “To give and receive care and compassion for mind, body and spirit based on Catholic ethics and Christian values”
Mont St Joseph Core Values:
Hospitality, Spirituality, Compassion, Collaboration, Accountability
