Acquired Brain Injury Education & Prevention Team

Acquired Brain Injury Education & Prevention Team Our aim is to promote and support community efforts to reduce brain injuries in Saskatchewan.

We are health educators, providing education & prevention services within the Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Outreach Teams - Saskatchewan Health Authority. Our North, Central and South regional teams provide service to the residents and communities throughout Saskatchewan. We aim to increase awareness of our education & prevention team & help you access programs & services; showcase our many community safety & health partners & show how they are making a difference in the lives of our community members; provide information about the brain, brain injury & wellness, safety & risk-related topics. We work with community groups & organizations, education, health, enforcement, emergency personnel and others to reduce injuries in our lives & in our Saskatchewan communities.

This Wednesday was spent with the Grade 4 class in St Brieux where we did a Brain Waves session!🧠 The students were so focused and engaged. A big highlight was tasting the sour solution while learning about the Parietal Lobe! We explored how each part of the brain works and why it’s so important to protect it-by doing things like wearing a helmet!🪖💡

🍁We remember those who have served our nation during times of war, conflict and peace. We recognize the contributions of all Canadians who have bravely served in uniform. Their sacrifices are woven into the fabric of our history, and we hold them in our hearts and minds.

🚨 Worried about how all those sugary treats you’re ingesting (or handing out) today are affecting your brain & overall health??! 😱 Here’s our best “go to”/Saskatchewan-made solution! 😋😉😂
OR….. better yet, remind yourself that it’s our everyday practices that affect brain health.
Instead, enjoy the joy, silliness and excitement of Halloween and follow pedestrian safety practices 🎃 THIS effort will go father in supporting your/your ghoulie’s wellbeing than having one less mini chocolate bar 🍫
1) Join/supervise your under 10 year old ghoulies for the evening 🦸🏼‍♀️
2) Ensure everyone is visible (flashlights, reflective materials) and can see/hear while wearing their costumes 🔦
3) Remind everyone to follow safe pedestrian practices such as walking in groups, staying on the sidewalk where possible, crossing safely at the corners 🚸

👻 Have fun tonight; Be smart; Be safe 🦺

It's a 🍁"CANADA POST"- ponement! 🍁

Most years in December, ABI Education & Prevention offers VIRTUAL BRAIN WAVES, our on-line version of the popular Parachute Canada program.

Unfortunately, due to the current Canada Post job action, we can't be confident our teaching materials will make it out to students & schools in a timely way. As a result we'll be postponing Virtual Brain Waves until the new year. Keep your eyes👀 on this page for more information about upcoming dates.

We still offer in-classroom presentations & will travel to schools as we're able.

Thanks everyone for your understanding!

It was our 🌟FIRST🌟 P.A.RT.Y. PROGRAM of the school year in Saskatoon!

TOMMY DOUGLAS COLLEGIATE hosted the full-day event, which focused on preventing fatalities & serious injuries in young people. Students learned about risk, choice & consequence from presenters with professional & lived experience of serious injury.

A BIG 📣shout out to the teachers at TDC who helped organize the day & to our presenters who took time out of their busy schedules to share their knowledge & insights with the students!
