Ok. So here's the latest from Zach Bush MD. Great for all my friends who are super curious about all the latest research on viruses- what they are, how they came to be, how they were and are instrumental in humans coming to exist at all, and how it is that our systems either do well with them or not. Zach has started an educational series of talks from leading scientists and physicians to help us all understand the latest science and insights into the complexity of our living systems. Hopefully this can then inspire us to create our own systems of health, technologies, economy and social networks that actually are in balance with the larger biosphere. It's a 2 hr educational lecture but full of new amazing discoveries!

Ok. Part of what we would like to bring to the community is a love of gardening and of living with plants and wildlife as an integral part of a balanced life. We're still brainstorming how this can be done in our space but hopefully we'll figure out some containers or area to plant in front of the building. I'm thinking positive so I already planted (ok maybe overplanted...) some coleus that can handle the shade. Today I'll pot them up into bigger pots. They have studies out that even to be able to see plants and trees from your window at work, can reduce stress... so now is a great time to think about how to plant up a little piece of peace and beauty at home or at work (when you finally go back).
2 tips I have for you.
bigger the pot the less you'll have to be on top of watering so the bigger the better for containers especially if they are in direct sun most of the day (they even make some huge ones that have water reservoirs in the bottom.). Don't think you'll get to watering it often if it's in a little pot.... you'll forget on a hot day or two and then be disappointed. I've done it...many times... so set yourself up at the start to succeed. Now I don't use containers unless they are at least 2 feet deep and wide.
#2 Pick your plants according to the sun- if you're in shade or only get morning sun don't pick sun lovers that need the majority of the day in direct light. Likewise keep shade lovers out of the sun or they will be super unhappy and look sad. Plants usually have labels on them for sun requirements or just google it. Have fun!
