Congratulations!

Living, studying and now serving in her hometown of Fort St. John.

Megan Wilson graduated from UNBC's Northern Baccalaureate Nursing Program with a 4.31 GPA and was awarded the 2025 Governor General’s Silver Medal—the highest academic honour for an undergraduate student at UNBC.

Through local clinical placements and a close-knit learning environment, she built the confidence and skills to begin her nursing career where it’s needed most.

Now working full-time as a primary care nurse, she’s committed to supporting health care in northern and underserved communities.

Congratulations to Megan Wilson, recipient of the Governor General’s Silver Medal at UNBC’s 2025 Convocation.

A Bachelor of Science in Nursing graduate from the Northern Baccalaureate Nursing Program (NBNP) at UNBC’s Peace River-Liard campus, Wilson completed her degree with a 4.31 GPA.

A lifelong resident of Fort St. John, she is passionate about advancing rural and northern health care through compassionate, community-based practice.

Throughout the NBNP, Wilson demonstrated academic excellence, leadership and resilience — transforming personal loss into deeper empathy and a commitment to patient-centred care.

The Governor General’s Silver Medal is awarded to the undergraduate student who achieves the highest academic standing at UNBC.

Congratulations to School of Nursing Senior Lab Instructor Amanda De Smit, recipient of the 2025 University Excellence in Service Award.

As an instructor in the Northern Baccalaureate Nursing Program at UNBC's Peace River-Liard campus in Fort St. John, De Smit has worked to expand educational pathways for underserved communities, helping ensure that future nurses are equipped to meet the region’s healthcare needs.

De Smit’s service demonstrates a deep commitment to advancing nursing education, supporting students and building partnerships with Northern Health.

Her dedication, leadership and student advocacy have had a transformative impact on both UNBC and the communities it serves.
