A message from Interim President, Dr. Bill Owen on behalf of the UNBC community.
"I am deeply shocked and saddened by the heartbreaking events that unfolded in Tumbler Ridge on Tuesday. My heartfelt condolences go out to all those affected by this tragedy. The flags at the Prince George campus are at half-mast in honour of those who lost their lives.
The grief residents in Tumbler Ridge are feeling is unimaginable. This morning, I am thinking of the families, educators, health-care providers, first responders and others who are processing the pain their close-knit community must now face, pain that is shared by the people of northern B.C., across the country and throughout the world.
Many within the UNBC community have personal, educational or family connections to Tumbler Ridge. On behalf of the University community, I want to emphasize that no one is alone, we will work through this together.
My thoughts also extend to students, faculty and staff at the Peace-River Liard campus in Fort St. John, the South-Central campus in Quesnel and the Northwest campus in Terrace. Deans and Directors will be reaching out to offer any additional supports that may be needed by our University community in the regions.
In challenging times, compassion and connection matter. Let us continue to support one another with care, patience, and understanding. Together, we can help foster safety, and a sense of community for all who are affected."
