Ending a close to a 12-hour day on the road, my process still looks exactly the same. No shortcuts. No cutting corners. From being behind at the beginning of the day, to finally getting a moment to pause and breathe (yes — there are absolutely days in where even taking a breather doesn’t feel possible, all my days don’t always go as planned), BUT, the standard never changes.

The day still ends back at the office running biological tests, checking every parameter, and ensuring every instrument is processed properly and safely — because patient safety will always be my top priority.

How I process isn’t just routine… it’s the gold standard. Sterilization, consistency, accountability, and attention to detail matter just as much at the end of a long day as they do at the beginning. My patients trust me with their care, and that’s something I never take lightly.

Somewhere in between patients today, I was finally able to pause long enough to catch the last inning and a half of the Pugwash Panthers softball game — and honestly, that small moment meant more than I realized. A reminder that even during the busiest, most demanding days, it’s important to breathe for a second and take in the little things(that was once me out in a field— flashbacks!)

And then there’s the sky.
At the end of evenings like this, especially after a late office close, I always look up. It’s become a habit — a quiet moment to breathe, reflect on the day, and take in everything it held. Every single time, I’m humbled.

Today especially reminded me why healthcare is such a calling. I had one patient experience today that made me miss bedside Nursing… and then another that instantly brought me right back to the reasons why becoming a Footcare Nurse was exactly where I’m meant to be 🥰

I’m beyond blessed to do what I love every single day. To care for patients who trust me, support me, and keep me busy enough that 12-hour shifts have become part of the normal rotation — that’s something I’ll never take for granted.

At the end of it all — the long days, the late evenings, the nonstop schedule, and tired feet — I still leave grateful. Grateful that this is my purpose. Grateful that I get to care for people in such a meaningful way. And grateful that no matter how exhausting the day may feel, I can go home knowing I gave my patients the very best of me ♥️

Holiday or not, this Nurse was up and at it in the office this morning refreshing, resetting, and prepping for the week ahead — a task that honestly never ends!

A Monday well spent sets the tone for a great week of content, because at the end of the day, patient safety will always be my number one priority.

And honestly… you know you truly love what you do when even the behind-the-scenes work brings you pure bliss and joy. Of course, a sunny Monday helps too!

Happy Monday, friends. Enjoy this beautiful sunshine ☀️ — this entire long weekend has been such a delight with it. And don’t forget your SPF… your skin and your health will thank you later!

Now I’m officially off for the rest of the day to spend it with my sweet girl 💕 My first four-day week in a long while, and I’m soaking up every second of it.

Nurse to Nurse — Spotlight on Community Nurses ♥️

Community Nurses will always hold a very special place in my heart, as that’s where I spent most of my Nursing career before transitioning into my Footcare practice.

It takes an incredibly special kind of heart, strength, patience, and knowledge to do what community Nurses do every single day. Walking into homes never fully knowing what’s waiting on the other side of the door, adapting quickly, building trust one-on-one, and wearing your critical thinking cap at all times — community nursing challenges you in ways that truly shape you as both a Nurse and a person.

One of my biggest takeaways from community nursing was realizing just how important critical thinking is in this profession. Not everyone has the ability to think, assess, adapt, and respond within seconds the way community Nurses often must.

Community Nursing can shape us, challenge us, humble us, and sometimes even break us — but it also builds some of the strongest, most compassionate Nurses.

Ironically enough, during Nursing school clinical placements, VON was a mandatory placement and I remember thinking, “Hands down, I would do VON Nursing.” Funny how life works sometimes… because in the end, that’s exactly what called me. Deep down, I knew the advanced skills, independence, experience, and knowledge were exactly what I needed to grow into the Nurse I wanted to become.

To every community Nurse: thank you for the care, strength, compassion, adaptability, and resilience you bring into people’s homes and lives every single day.

You are truly a special kind of Nurse ♥️✨

A Nurse Admiring Nurses 💝

Another fun fact … When I first dreamed of becoming a Nurse, I always imagined myself working in pediatrics. Even as a child, caring for little ones felt like where my heart belonged. I had moments in my life that quietly shaped the kind of Nurse and person I hoped to become.

Now, as a mother to my own daughter, those feelings reach an entirely different depth. Watching your child hurt, struggle, or simply need comfort changes you. It softens you in places you never knew existed(You know it’s true when a little girl turns her daddy into the world’s biggest teddy bear) It makes you realize just how much trust families place in the hands of pediatric nurses every single day.

It takes a truly special kind of person to care for children day in and day out — to be both strength and softness at the same time. Pediatric Nurses are more than caregivers. They are comfort in scary moments, calm in uncertainty, and safe places for both children and parents navigating some of the hardest days of their lives.

The smallest gestures — a warm smile, a reassuring hand, kneeling down to a child’s level, making them laugh through tears — can leave lasting marks on a family’s heart forever.

There is something incredibly sacred about caring for children. Their resilience is inspiring, their vulnerability heartbreaking, and the Nurses who stand beside them carry a kind of compassion that deserves endless recognition.

To every pediatric Nurse: thank you for loving families through their hardest moments, for protecting tiny hearts, and for making hospital rooms feel a little less scary. The work you do matters more than words could ever express—From a fellow Nurse who deeply admires the Nurses you are ♥️

Fun fact in honour of National Nurses Week

At the age my daughter is now — seven years old — I already knew I wanted to be a Nurse. A very special woman in my life, my Great Nanny Mae, played a huge role in inspiring that dream and holding such a meaningful place in my heart.

Then, when my brother became sick with renal failure and spent time at the IWK and continued with ongoing follow-ups, I truly knew my heart belonged in Nursing.

Another fun fact? If Nursing had never found me, blueprint design or architecture absolutely would have. Those who know me well totally understand that one!

Truthfully, a big part of why I’m so passionate about caring for others comes from my own life experiences. I’ve learned that sometimes the people who choose careers rooted in compassion are often the ones who understand the deepest need for it.

I experienced challenges that taught me the importance of kindness, empathy, support, and human connection. Those experiences shaped me into someone who wants to give others the care, comfort, and encouragement I may not always have received myself. Nursing’s allowed me to show up for others with love, patience, and compassion — and that, in many ways, has been healing too ♥️

Happy National Nurses Week to every Nurse or future Nurse following their heart.
Some people find a career— I found a gift 💝

Happy Nurses Week ❤️

A little backstory …

I graduated from NSCC Stellarton in 2012 and began my Nursing career at East Cumberland Lodge. As a brand new Nurse, it gave me the foundation, confidence, and support I needed stepping into this profession. I had the privilege of working alongside some truly incredible Nurses and amazing CCA’s who helped shape those early years of my career — some I’ll never forget.

Deep down, I knew my heart needed more challenge, faster pace, more growth, and more opportunity to expand my skills.

Then in June 2013, Victorian Order Nurses(VON) Cumberland called my name — and looking back now, it became one of the most meaningful chapters of my Nursing journey.

VON was everything. The Nurses, the support, the critical thinking, the endless learning opportunities, and the challenges that pushed me to grow into the Nurse I am today. Mentoring students quickly became one of my favourite parts of Nursing, and something I’ll always hold close to my heart.

I remained with VON throughout my Nursing career, and somehow, that path led me exactly where I was meant to be: Nursing Footcare
Truthfully, if it wasn’t for VON providing basic footcare education years ago 😅, I may never have discovered the passion I now have for this profession.

For a brief period, I was also fortunate enough to work casual in our local Emergency Department in the heart of Pugwash. That experience brought a whole other level of challenge and growth, and once again, I found myself surrounded by incredible Nurses who continued shaping me both personally and professionally.

And now here I am — over 6+ years into owning my own Nursing Footcare business, and over a year working from my clinic space right here in the heart of my beautiful hometown (before that, I was strictly mobile). I continue to challenge myself every day, always learning, always growing, and constantly inspired by the amazing Nurse entrepreneurs I’ve met along the way. This side of Nursing is not for the weak — but it is incredibly rewarding.

Anyone who knows me has probably heard me say it before… I’ll always miss VON 🥹 because Nursing there gave me so much. But I truly believe my heart is exactly where it belongs now.

So to all the Nurses out there — the ones I’ve had the privilege of knowing, working alongside, learning from, and becoming lifelong friends with… and especially the amazing Nurses building their own Footcare practices…

Happy Nurses Week ❤️

Nurses truly are the backbone of healthcare. There are not many people who can do what Nurses do so selflessly every single day. Whether it’s in hospitals, long-term care, community nursing, emergency departments, clinics, or footcare and more — it takes a very special kind of heart.

I’m grateful everyday for every opportunity and all that this profession gives me, but more importantly, thank you to every Nurse who continues showing up day in and day out, providing care with compassion, strength, and selflessness — even on the hardest days.

You are appreciated more than you know ♥️

Out of Office Tomorrow ✨

Tomorrow I will be out of office for the day as I head out in the morning to attend a master class and bring a new skill/treatment into my Nursing Footcare practice — stay tuned 😉

While the class itself won’t take up the entire day, I’ll also be spending the evening with my daughter at her dance rehearsal in preparation for her recital on Saturday. With the busy day ahead (and the weekend events!), there may be a slight delay in responses to messages and inquiries.

As always, thank you so much for your patience and understanding! This master class has been booked for quite some time, and the excitement is definitely building. I truly love continuing to grow my knowledge and skills so I can better serve all of you while continuing to advance my nursing competencies within my footcare practice. 💛
