We’re excited to introduce Registered Massage Therapist, Jillian Peacock, to our team at Qualicum Beach Integrated Health.

Jillian grew up right here on Vancouver Island and later moved to the Mainland to pursue her massage therapy career. She graduated with honours from the Vancouver College of Massage Therapy in 2021.

Her treatment approach is goal-oriented and highly therapeutic, often integrating deeper techniques with dynamic release to help clients find lasting relief. She focuses on prevention, maintenance, recovery, and rehabilitation — while also encouraging clients to incorporate exercise and stretching into their daily routines so they can get back to the activities they love most.

Beyond the clinic, Jillian has been a competitive Highland dancer for over 24 years, achieving multiple championships and consistently ranking in the top six dancers in Canada. She balances her training with cross-discipline conditioning, including strength, endurance, and plyometric exercise. To further support her clients’ active lifestyles, Jillian also earned her personal training certificate in 2019.

✨ We’re thrilled to welcome Jillian and know she will be a wonderful addition to our health community!

RAW UNPASTEURIZED HONEY
🐝🍯

Raw honey is a blend of sugar, trace enzymes, minerals, vitamins, and amino acids that have antibacterial, anti-fungal, and antioxidant properties.

•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Bifidobacteria, a type of bacteria that’s known to enhance digestive and immune health, is found in raw honey and can serve as an effective probiotic by stimulating Bifidobacteria growth in the intestine.

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Consuming raw honey can help decrease allergy symptoms: More often than not, locally produced honey may contain pollen spores picked up by bees from local plants.
Consuming locally produced raw honey is highly ideal because it can allow the honey to boost the body’s health and resistance against certain allergens.

Purple dead nettle is a common garden “weed” that I don’t pick in my yard for numerous reasons.

Did you know that it has anti-inflammatory, antifungal and antibacterial properties?
It can also be used on cuts and wound and help stop bleeding. (Make a poultice).

Purple deadnettle is not only a wild edible green, but a highly nutritious superfood. The leaves are edible, with the purple tops being even a little sweet.
It can be made into an infusion or tea, with either fresh plant material or dried. This may be the simplest way to enjoy its benefits, although it may also have a laxative effect if used in large amounts.

Purple Dead Nettle also has many benefits for the soil:

1. Soil Improvement: Purple dead nettle acts as a natural ground cover, protecting the soil from erosion and improving its structure. The plant’s root system helps prevent soil compaction and promotes aeration.

2. Nitrogen Fixation: Similar to other leguminous plants, purple dead nettle has the ability to fix nitrogen from the air and convert it into a form usable by other plants. This nitrogen fixation enhances soil fertility, benefiting neighboring plants.

3. Pollinator Attraction: The vibrant purple flowers of purple dead nettle serve as an excellent nectar source for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. By attracting these beneficial insects, it supports overall ecosystem health and promotes biodiversity.

Your body is meant to move, simple as that.

MOVEMENT is MEDICINE.

We have 206 bones and roughly 640 muscles that all act synergistically with each other to articulate your motion through your joints.
Exercising and moving your body can be one of the best things you can do for overall health. •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Not only do we expel toxins through the skin through sweating, but enduring physical activity causes increased neuroplasticity (new synapses/connections in the brain), the release of feel good endorphins & neurotransmitters, reduces inflammation & oxidative stress and moves lymphatic fluid - your body’s waste clearance system. (Did you know that we have 15 litres of lymphatic fluid! And only 5 litres of blood!?)

An adequate intake of salt in the human diet is required to maintain good health.

The benefits of SALT:

* Increases metabolic rate and heat in the body.
* Reduces bloating.
* Supresses stress hormones in particular aldosterone.
* Improves muscle function.
* Supports thyroid gland functioning and therefore a faster metabolism and efficient fat loss.
* Improves insulin sensitivity.
* Reduces risk of coronary events.
* Has a positive effect on blood pressure.
* Reduces inflammation and cramping.
* Helps magnesium absorption.
* Relieves constipation.
* Improves sleep.

•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Sodium stimulates energy metabolism, increases carbon dioxide production, and protects against inflammation and other maladaptive stress reactions
Research shows that a lack of sodium slows metabolism, lowers carbon dioxide production, and creates inflammation, stress and degeneration.

•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

I like to use Celtic sea salt or a grey sea salt.
Stay away from table salt because it very often contains potentially dangerous anti caking ingredients like aluminum hydroxide. (added to improve the ability of table salt to pour).

•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Get a nice dose of sea salt before bed.
Adding a pinch or two of sea salt to your water before bedtime will help create better sleep patterns and begin to bring down and regulate cortisol levels.
(Bringing down your nighttime adrenaline and cortisol before shut eye is necessary for quality rest).

Our bodies have an amazing ability to adapt, change and heal all on its own. This is called INNATE INTELLIGENCE.
Every living thing has innate intelligence.

ACUPUNCTURE can trigger the body’s innate healing abilities and promote both physical and emotional well-being by stimulating precise body points.
The process stimulates the central nervous system, leading to the release of chemicals into the muscles, spinal cord, and brain.

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Other ways to assist your body’s innate Healing:

1. Exercise and optimize your metabolic health.

2. Stay away from pesticide laden foods and GMOs by choosing organic as much as possible.

4. Eat a variety of whole foods. (Different coloured fruits, vegetables, grains and protein sources provide a spectrum of phytonutrients and healing properties).

5. Stay away from man made synthetic chemicals. (Read labels and try and understand all ingredients before placing in or on your body).

6. Minimize stress in your life. It’s all about perspective. Your thoughts will determine your trajectory in life. Vibrate on a higher frequency. Fear, guilt and shame are the lowest vibrational frequencies.

7. Get adequate sleep. This is foundational to healing.

8. Use Natural medicine as much as possible to boost your body’s natural healing capacity.

9. Assist your body in detoxification.
(Making sure you are pooping daily, sweating daily, adequate water intake).

10. Support liver health. (bitter greens and herbs, expressing emotions and not holding in anger as it affects the liver ).

Did you know that ATRAZINE is the second most widely used pesticide in Canada (behind glyphosate), and is a potent endocrine disruptor? (Meaning it will interfere with your hormones).
Atrazine has been shown to affect pregnant women by causing their babies to grow more slowly than normal. (CDC study)
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Studies have also demonstrated that high enough doses of atrazine can turn a male frog into a female frog. (This is extremely disconcerting).
Atrazine was removed from the European market in 2004 due to health concerns, yet in the US and Canada it is still one of the most common pesticides found in underground and surface water systems.
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

This harmful compound has been found in 94% of U.S drinking water samples in levels dangerous to our physiology. (Atrazine contamination has also been found all over Canada and BC).
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Health Effects of ATRAZINE
1. Delayed puberty
2. Increased breast and prostate cancer
3. Aromatization of estrogen
4. Reduced fertility
5. Birth defects
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Health Canada is aware that atrazine makes its way into drinking water. According to the agency, “because atrazine has been classified in Group III (possibly carcinogenic to humans)” an acceptable amount in drinking water has been set at 5 parts per billion.
That means as long as the amount of atrazine stays below that limit, Health Canada believes it is safe for human consumption. The use of atrazine in the environment is basically an uncontrolled experiment.
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

WHAT CAN YOU DO?
1. Check with your local water provider to see if it monitors and tests atrazine and how often.
2. Filter your water.
3. Avoiding conventional crops sprayed with atrazine like sugarcane, soy, corn and canola. (Purchase organic, avoid canola oil).
4. Taking binders. I use HMET in clinic. This helps binds heavy metals and environmental toxins systemically.
5. Avoid living In an area that sprays atrazine on its crops.
