Tony grew up on Cowessess First Nation, where he developed a strong work ethic and deep love for his family. He went on to join the Canadian Armed Forces and became a part of the Queen's Own Rifles of Canada. He had many passions and jobs throughout his life. From farming to ranching, tinkering with vehicles and doing all kinds of projects around home, and a fondness for all animals. A long-time maintenance worker for the Marviel Residential School on Cowessess. He was also a long-time member of the First Nations Veterans Association and volunteered his time every year at the Treaty 4 Pow-Wow.
Tony was a pillar of strength and support for his family —a devoted husband, father, and grandfather — always there to offer guidance, love, and laughs. He cherished family gatherings, and his presence at holidays and celebrations brought warmth and joy to those around him with his many stories.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Devona Lerat, his children, John Dennis, Joseph Lori (Lorraine), Niles (Holly), and Daniel (Katrina). Grandchildren: Devona (Joe), Leslie (Brad), Alfred (Pam), Misty, Kristen (Dante), Alex (Tila), Tasha, Hailey (Kyle), Shannon Evans, Everette Ewenin, Jo-el Cheekinew and numerous great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Verla Clark, Darlene O’neal, and Veronica Port (Ken).
We would like to thank the Moosomin Care Home for making his last days comfortable and happy, and his favorite home care worker, Katherine, who took him on little journeys of escape. Thank you all. He will be sadly missed by all who love him.
