Therapy isn’t lying on a couch while someone scribbles notes and says “hmm.”

Sometimes it’s laughter. Sometimes it’s awkward silences. Sometimes it’s tears and breakthroughs and learning to sit with hard feelings.

It’s not about “fixing” you—it’s about making space for your story, your growth, your healing.

Starting therapy can feel intimidating — but it doesn’t have to. At Cirrus, you don’t have to figure it all out alone. We have several therapists currently accepting new patients, each bringing their own experience, approach, and style to the table. That means you can find the right fit for you, in a space where feeling supported comes first.

When should you consider a psychological assessment?

If what you’re doing is helping, keep going. But if you’re still struggling with symptoms that feel intrusive, if your strategies aren’t landing, or if your progress has plateaued, it might be time to ask: Are we actually working on the right thing?

Psychological assessments can help uncover what’s really going on beneath the surface—especially when symptoms overlap. For example, many women with ADHD are first treated for anxiety. And while anxiety strategies may help a little, they often miss the full picture.

If you’ve made some progress, but things still don’t feel quite right—it might be time to look deeper.

Living with a chronic illness can feel isolating, not because people don’t care, but because it’s hard for others to fully understand what it takes out of you every day.

Your frustration, your exhaustion, your hope… they’re all valid. Having someone walk beside you in that journey can remind you that you don’t have to carry it alone.

Ever make a tiny mistake and replay it in your head for hours? That inner critic can be relentless. Here’s the truth: perfectionism doesn’t protect you from failure — it robs you of peace. Learning to quiet that voice and practice self-compassion is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself. You’re not supposed to be perfect — you’re supposed to be human.

If you’ve noticed your teen pulling away, getting more irritable, or just not being themselves, you’re not alone.

Every parent has that moment of “something feels off.” The truth is, teens often don’t know how to put into words what they’re going through — and that’s where support can make all the difference. Sometimes, a safe space and a listening ear are exactly what helps them find their spark again.

As the days get shorter, many people notice changes in their energy, mood, or motivation. It’s not laziness—it can be a sign of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), a type of depression linked to seasonal shifts.

Therapy, light exposure, and simple daily routines can make a real difference. If you find yourself struggling as fall moves in, know that you’re not alone and that support is available.

When most people hear “nature therapy,” they think it just means doing a counselling session outside. But ecotherapy is so much more than that.

Nature therapy is about learning from the land itself—taking the wisdom of our environment and weaving it into how we live and care for our mental health. It’s about reciprocity: recognizing that we don’t exist alone, and that we give back as much as we take.

Here in Central Alberta, we live on Blackfoot and Cree land. Indigenous knowledge teaches us about the importance of community, reciprocity, and abundance. A beautiful example comes from The Serviceberry by Robin Wall Kimmerer. She shares the idea of a “gift economy” — one based not on scarcity, but on abundance.

Think of a Saskatoon berry bush: it doesn’t just grow enough berries to spread its seeds. It produces an abundance, feeding birds, animals, and people, while still ensuring its own survival. That generosity strengthens the entire ecosystem.

Ecotherapy invites us to live with the same mindset: abundance, reciprocity, and community. Because when we give back, everyone flourishes.

This is your reminder to just breathe.

Not every problem has to be solved today. Not every “to-do” has to get checked off. Sometimes the most powerful reset is a single deep breath — giving your body and mind a moment to slow down and remember that you’re okay.

Take that pause. Inhale. Exhale. Repeat as needed.

Sometimes gratitude just bubbles over — and today feels like one of those days.

This Thanksgiving, we’re pausing to give thanks for the people who trust us with their stories, their healing, and their hopes. We’re grateful for the communities we serve across Central Alberta, and for the reminder that even in difficult seasons, there’s always something to hold onto with gratitude.

From all of us at Cirrus Psychology, we wish you and your loved ones a safe, restful, and joy-filled Thanksgiving.

Therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all. For many Indigenous clients, healing looks different.

Honouring culture, land, and traditions in therapy isn’t just important, it’s essential. At Cirrus Psychology, we’re committed to learning, listening, and offering culturally informed approaches so that healing feels safe and rooted in respect.
