A lot of us may be experiencing that “winter blues” about now - it’s not quite a winter wonderland, but yet not spring. Here are my top 3 tips for conquering those blues:

1) Get Outside — Even When You Don’t Feel Like It

Alberta winters are cold, but they’re also bright and beautiful. Natural light (even on cloudy days) helps regulate mood and energy. Start with a 20 minute walk outside!

2) Create Something to Look Forward To

Winter feels longest when every day blends together. Break it up intentionally. Maybe it’s a day trip to Abraham Lake, a weekend away in Banff, or even planning a night at the bowling alley!

3) Upgrade Your Indoor Environment

If we’re indoors more, make it intentional — not survival mode. Whether it be ambient warm lamps, dance breaks, or intentionally reaching out to others for connection.. make inside epic!

Because trauma does not occur in a vacuum.

When we sit with clients, we don’t just hear stories of “symptoms.” We hear the impact of racism, poverty, gendered violence, colonialism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, immigration policies, war, and systems that decide whose bodies are protected and whose are disposable.

To treat trauma while ignoring the systems that create and maintain it is not neutrality—its alignment with the status quo.
