Hey Helpers!

Social media is a wonderful and treacherous beast. It may seem ironic that we’re writing about social media and posting it on our social media, but like many things, having a healthy relationship with social media is about balance.

When we engage with social media we might make comparisons between ourselves and others. People tend to show exciting, great parts of their life on their social media and it can make us feel like we are not living our best life- but that is only because we don’t see the less exciting parts of theirs. It can also be hard not to assign value to the number of likes or followers we get. This has no bearing on who you are as a person or what kind of a person you are. It can be so hard to detach oneself from this kind of thinking because some studies show that the reward part of our brains is activated when we get likes.

Social media can be amazing for many things, like staying connected with friends no matter where they are geographically, engaging within a specific community, and keeping up to date with your friends! So keep using social media! It can be awesome, but be aware of how you’re using it and how it is affecting how you’re feeling. Take care of you first.

Hey Helpers! What have you been doing in self-isolation? Have you been playing games with your family, have you tried out new hobbies, or just found yourself sleeping a lot? Whatever it is you’ve been doing-just know it’s okay. We all cope differently and we shouldn’t compare ourselves to each other. So continue doing what you need to do for your own wellbeing. And let us know if there’s anything fun we should try out in our self-isolation! ☀️
