Mental Health Week begins today.

This year’s theme, Come Together, Canada – Stronger Connections, better mental health, highlights the powerful role social connection plays in improving well-being.

Social connection is essential to mental health, yet many people are feeling alone. In Canada, millions of Canadian youth, adults and seniors say they feel lonely often or always.

This week, we’re inviting Canadians to take small steps toward connection -whether it’s reaching out to a friend, joining a community event, or simply starting a conversation. Because when we come together, we strengthen mental health for
everyone.

Connection isn’t just a nice idea. It’s backed by science.
When we share a smile, hear a kind word, or feel understood, our brain’s reward system activates.

Positive social interactions release dopamine and oxytocin, chemicals that help us feel safe, motivated, and connected to others.

In other words, connection helps our brains thrive.

This Mental Health Week (May 4-10), take a moment to reach out, check in, or spend time together.

Connection strengthens mental health.
Come Together, Canada.
