The boys want “friends with benefits.”
The friend group is smoking pot.
The kids are out doing who knows what until who knows when.

The real question is:

Will your child be able to say no when it matters?

Most kids aren’t taught how.

Honestly, I wasn’t either.

The first time I used “no” as a complete sentence and held through the awkwardness… I was 36 years old!!

Kids need more than lectures.
They need to practice saying no before they’re under pressure.

They need:

self-awareness to know when something feels off
confidence to hold their ground
resilience to feel uncomfortable and still make a good choice

Most youth are being prepared for a world that no longer exists.

We’re teaching them how to pass tests…
But not how to handle stress.
We’re teaching them how to follow rules…
But not how to recover from failure.

So the real question is this:
What skills will youth actually need 10 years from now?

Because the future won’t slow down.
Jobs will change.
Technology will evolve.
Uncertainty will be constant.

And youth who haven’t learned skills like emotional regulation, accountability, adaptability, and resilience will struggle — not because they’re incapable, but because they were never equipped.

Youth don’t need to be fixed.
They need to be taught skills that help them navigate real life.

If we want confident, capable, and mentally strong young people, we have to shift the focus from short-term performance to long-term preparation.

Are we preparing youth to pass the next test…
Or to handle the next decade of life?

Most of us were raised on:
“Stop crying “
“You’re fine”
“Calm down”

And now we’re supposed to teach emotional intelligence??
No wonder parents feel lost!

Here’s the plot twist:
You don’t have to be emotionally fluent to raise an emotional strong kid.
You just have to be willing to learn with them.

That’s what I did with my own high needs son - and it changed everything.
