The end of July, already! Have any of you been to the Central Alberta Cancer Center at the Red Deer Regional Hospital, recently?
So many changes to the RDRH property. Accessing the center takes longer. You will get your daily steps in 🤣! Elevators down, basement corridors, elevator up and there you are; takes awhile.
Interesting view from The Jolt coffee kiosk as you go, see all the ground dug out, worth a visit.

Hello Everyone! How was your Summer and early Fall? Are you getting ready for Winter? Remember to dress warmly if going to and from treatments.
The Red Deer Hospital still has Parking Tower Construction happening, but not for long, we hope. The Cancer Center Parking lot is still open and opened a new temporary entrance a few weeks ago.
For those of you who want someone to pray for you, let us know. You can private message if you prefer.
If you need transportation here are three options: Golden Circle has Supportive Transportation - 403-343-6074, Comfort Keepers - 587-802-3365 and Red Deer Transit Action Bus -who can do Wheelchairs - 403-309-8400
It is best to contact them and see if they can meet your needs.
Cancer is a tough journey, we all know that, but a smile, for a stranger, could change their whole day. Remember to talk to each other at the Cancer Center: during treatments, waiting for appointments, help one another. I have had great conversations with complete strangers. Made my day brighter.
So, for myself - to those who are pray, I have another surgery on November 29th, I would appreciate your prayers.

Red Currants. If you know someone who has a bush or you find fresh at farmers market, try them. Delicious little berries. Freeze well. They have lots of great nutrition and help regarding cancer.

Where can we get good information about cancer? I was given the following website by my Oncologist, Dr. Tarukandirwa, at the Central Alberta Cancer Center. Who is a great guy. I went into my appointment with a list of questions. One hour later he had fully explained the diagnosis and the medication he was suggesting. He did a couple of 'white board' diagrams and explanations. At the end he gave me this. I hope it helps you all.

There is a new (to me) blood test available through Alberta Health Services. Visit your doctor and request a Breast Cancer (BRCA) Gene Test, it is a simple blood test. I had mine done at Dyna Lab - but be patient, it is not a common request - so they will need a moment or two to find the form. The test takes about three weeks to process and you will be able to see the results on your MyAHS Connect page under test results..
I am a fan of DNA, due to my hobby in genealogy, so was excited to get this done. I learned through research that it is not just for breast and ovarian cancer but several others plus both men and women can be tested; as we know men can get breast cancer too.

A breast cancer (BRCA) gene test is a blood test to check for changes (mutations) in genes called BRCA1 and BRCA2. This test can help you know your chance of getting breast cancer and ovarian cancer. A BRCA gene test does not test for cancer itself.

Looking for a wig? Since the Cancer Society closed the doors in Red Deer it has been hard to find a wig. I did come across a small store in Calgary called Wig Warehouse located in North Hill Shopping Center, 1632 14 Ave, SW. The gal there said they give discounts to those with cancer. It is not far from Foothills Hospital and the Cancer Center there. 1-403-708-0687 Quite a variety of wigs and hair pieces. Now, it might not be the quality you could find elsewhere but it is an option. So a nice road trip to Calgary might be in order. Call ahead and see if they do appointments even? There is also a website: www.WigWarehouse.ca Have a look and see if you can order online even. That is what I have found so far. Also, if making a trip to Calgary.
