Since our beginnings as a completely volunteer driven organization, we have grown to the place of providing a fully operational office and staff that can be reached during regular business hours (M-F 9-4 Mountain Time). This has allowed us to increase service to both members and prospective members and frees up our volunteers to promote the benefits of the Canadian Massage and Manual Osteopathic Therapists Association to the public and future members. Our governance Board of Directors is elected by our membership, from within our members, and is responsible for policy adoption and revision as necessary, oversight of all financial matters and oversight of all committees struck by the Board. Our association is active on several internal and external committees at the federal, provincial, and municipal levels of government. We are one of 4 associations that represent massage therapists recognized by Alberta Health and Wellness. Massage Therapists in unregulated provinces & territories who are members of the Canadian Massage and Manual Osteopathic Therapists Association are automatically recognized by health insurance companies, as we do not accept massage therapist members with less than 2200 hours of training from a recognized school, nor do we recognize experience in lieu of education. Manual Osteopathic Therapists who are members of our Association are recognized by nationwide by 21 health insurance companies, and we continue to advocate to see this recognition list grow. Our members practice nationwide in Canada from coast to coast to coast.

We are saddened to learn of the passing of John F. Barnes, a teacher whose work and presence shaped the lives and practices of countless therapists around the world.

For many in our community, John was more than a name or a method. He was a mentor, a guide, and a source of deep learning that influenced how therapists listen, feel, and connect with the people they work with. His teachings reached far beyond technique, leaving a lasting imprint on both professional practice and personal growth.

Through the therapists he taught and the care they continue to provide, his legacy will live on every day.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, students, and all who were touched by his work.

Rest in peace, John.

Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the recent events at Bondi Beach.

During times like these, we are reminded of the importance of compassion, community, and coming together in support of one another. We stand in solidarity with the individuals, families, first responders, and healthcare professionals impacted.

We are so excited to invite you to Quick Manual Therapy Techniques for Musculoskeletal Pain Relief, happening April 24–26, 2026 in Lake Louise, Alberta.

This is more than a weekend course. It is a chance to step away from the everyday, sharpen your hands on skills, and learn in one of the most breathtaking settings in Canada.

Led by internationally recognized instructor James Waslaski, this in person course focuses on practical, efficient manual therapy techniques you can use immediately in clinic. You will learn fast assessment strategies and hands on approaches for common pain patterns including neck, shoulder, low back, hip, and knee.

Learn during the day, then take time to explore the mountains, go for a walk by the lake, relax, connect with other therapists, or simply breathe.

This experience is about learning, resetting, and feeling inspired again.
