Today we recognize International Firefighters’ Day 🚒🔥
As first responders, we have the privilege of working side by side with our firefighters—on some of the best days, and some of the hardest.
We see firsthand the professionalism they bring to every call, the depth of knowledge they carry into unpredictable situations, and the unwavering dedication they have to protecting our communities.
Whether it’s responding to emergencies, educating the public, or quietly showing up when people need help the most—these individuals lead with courage, skill, and heart.
We’re proud to stand alongside you, learn from you, and support one another in keeping our community safe.
Thank you for everything you do Regina Beach Fire Department —today and every day. ❤️

🚨 Emergency Preparedness Week is Here 🚨
Living in a beautiful rural beach community means we enjoy wide open spaces, lake life, and small-town connection — but it also means being prepared matters.
This week, our local first responders encourage everyone to take a few simple steps to be ready for emergencies before they happen:
✔️ Build a 72-hour emergency kit
✔️ Make sure your house number is clearly visible from the road
✔️ Keep flashlights, batteries, and chargers ready
✔️ Know your family’s emergency meeting place
✔️ Keep vehicles fueled and stocked during storm season
✔️ Have a plan for pets, seniors, and neighbours who may need extra help
✔️ Stay informed through local alerts and weather updates
Prepared communities are stronger communities. Take a few minutes this week to make a plan — because emergencies don’t wait for convenience.
From your local first responders, thank you for helping keep our beach town safe. 💙

We know—it’s only the beginning of May, and there are still a few stubborn piles of snow hanging around in those shady spots. But don’t let that fool you… it does not mean the fire risk is low.

In fact, fire conditions are changing quickly, and the fire danger rating is already climbing toward extreme.
This time of year can be especially risky. Before the grass fully greens up and the trees get their leaves, all that dry, dead vegetation from last season becomes perfect fuel. It only takes a small spark—whether from burning, equipment, or even a discarded cigarette—to start a fast-moving fire.

🚨 What you should know:

-Dry grass burns very quickly
-Wind can spread fire faster than expected
-Fires can get out of control in minutes

If you’re planning any burning, please do so with extreme caution:

✔️ Check local conditions
✔️ Never leave a fire unattended
✔️ Have water or suppression tools ready
✔️ Make sure your fire is fully extinguished

Let’s all do our part to keep our community safe. Just because there’s still snow in places doesn’t mean we’re in the clear.

Stay safe, Vonda.

🚨 First Responder Reminder 🚨
Call volumes are up across our community, and our crews are working hard to respond quickly and efficiently.
One of the easiest ways you can help us help you is by ensuring your address is clearly visible from the road—day and night.
✔️ Large, easy-to-read numbers
✔️ Visible from both directions
✔️ Not blocked by snow, trees, or decorations
✔️ Reflective or well-lit if possible
When seconds count, we shouldn’t have to search for you. A visible address helps us get to you faster—when you need us most.
💛 From all of us on the front lines, thank you for helping keep your community saf!

April reminder… winter isn’t quite done with us yet ❄️
With the snowstorm moving through, Highways are closed, and travel conditions are poor across the area.
Living in a lake community means we see a few extra risks this time of year:
Snow + wind = sudden whiteouts
Melting + freezing = slick, icy roads
Lake edges becoming unstable and unsafe
Emergency response times may be delayed
If you can:
Stay put
Reach out to neighbours
Keep emergency supplies close
Stay safe out there 💙

🌱 Spring Melt = Hidden Hazards 🌱
As the snow disappears, it’s not just grass showing up… it’s everything winter left behind.
-🚧 What to watch for during spring clean-up:

-Uneven ground, hidden holes, and ice patches
-Debris, sharp objects, and broken branches
-Fast-moving meltwater in ditches and culverts
-Slippery decks, steps, and walkways

💡 Stay safe while cleaning up:
Wear gloves and sturdy footwear
Take it slow—conditions are unpredictable
Keep kids and pets nearby and supervised

Be cautious around flowing water
🚫 Stay OFF the ice.
-Spring ice is unstable, unpredictable, and can fail without warning—especially near shore.
🌊 Keep your distance from the water’s edge:
Ice weakens from below and above
-Shorelines melt first

One step can be the difference
❗ If someone falls through:
Call for help immediately
Do NOT go onto the ice
Reach or throw something from shore (rope, stick, jacket)
-Keep them talking and facing you
Spring is a fresh start—but it comes with risks.

Let’s look out for each other and keep our community safe 💛

April is Volunteer Month 💙
From all of us at South Shore First Responders, we want to take a moment to recognize the incredible volunteers who help keep our community strong, safe, and connected.
Whether it’s responding to emergencies, supporting local events, or simply lending a helping hand—your time, compassion, and dedication do not go unnoticed.
Our community runs on the quiet strength of people who show up. And for that, we are so grateful.
Thank you for all that you do

Prairie weather reminder 🌬️❄️☀️
We’re starting to see those nicer days sneak in… but don’t let it fool you.
This time of year is unpredictable — sunshine one minute, snow and freezing rain the next. Roads can turn slick fast, temperatures can drop quick, and conditions can change before you even make it home.
🚗 Keep your vehicle stocked
🧥 Dress in layers
📱 Let someone know your travel plans
🧊 Slow down — especially mornings and evenings

Spring might be coming… but winter isn’t done with us yet.
Stay safe out there, everyone 🤍
