What you do after a snowstorm matters. Make smart choices after the storm.

🧂 Clear and salt sidewalks and walkways to prevent slips and falls.
🌊 Watch for flooding as snow melts, especially near basements and drains.
🔍 Check your pipes. Frozen pipes can burst and cause hidden damage.
🦠 After thawing, look for water damage and mould in affected areas.

Small actions now can prevent big problems later. Take a few minutes to check your home and surroundings.

🚨 Post-Storm Safety Reminder🚨
After a significant snowfall, we know many of you are digging out driveways, sidewalks, and access points. Heavy, wet snow can put serious strain on the body — even for those used to physical work.
❄️ Take breaks
❄️ Push snow when possible instead of lifting
❄️ Stay hydrated
❄️ Listen to your body — chest pain, dizziness, or shortness of breath are warning signs
Looking after yourself helps ensure you’re there when others need you. Stay safe out there.

🎄Day 12: Lithium-Ion Batteries

We’ve made it to the final day of our 12 Days of Holiday Safety! Today’s topic powers a lot of this season’s coolest gifts: lithium-ion batteries.

These mighty batteries keep our favorite gadgets going, but they do need some extra care. Add some peace of mind to your celebrations with these safety tips:

🔋 Keep an eye on toys and devices while they’re charging.
📖 Always follow the manufacturer’s charging instructions.
⏱️ Unplug once fully charged—no overcharging!

🎄Day 11: Children & Pet Fire Safety

Young children and four-legged critters get excited by twinkly lights and decorations, but their curiosity can sometimes create fire hazards. Keep the season merry and safe with a few easy tips:

👧 For Kids: Create a one-metre “kid-free zone” around anything hot — candles, fireplaces, space heaters, you name it. Little ones should also never be left alone near open flames.

🐾 For Pets: Pets love to sniff, paw and chew, so keep cords tucked away and candles out of reach. If you can, swap real candles for electric ones to avoid any accidental tail-swishes or curious nudges.

🎄 Day 7: Candle Fire Safety

’Tis the season for sparkle, not smoke! December is the busiest month for candle-related home fires. Stay safe when using candles:

🕯️ Keep candles well away from anything that can burn.
🚫 Avoid placing them in high-traffic spots where kids or pets might bump into them.
💤 Always blow them out before leaving the room or heading to bed.

🎄Day 4: Holiday Lighting

Brighten your season, not your fuse—inspect holiday lights before you plug them in:

🔍 Check for broken sockets, frayed wires or loose connections.
🗑️ Dispose of any damaged lights.
💡Tip: Use indoor lights indoors and outdoor lights for the exterior.

🎄 Day 5: Extension Cords & Power Strips

Let’s talk electrical cord safety! Handle extension cords and power strips with care this season:

🔌 Use them only for temporary or occasional needs.
✅ Choose CSA-approved cords and power strips.
🔍 Inspect for wear or damage—if they’re faulty, get replacements.
🚫 Never place power strips under rugs or connect them to one another.
⚠️ Avoid overloading outlets or power strips—too much demand can cause overheating and even fires.
